Best WLM Reviews
We have been with this practice for over 30 years. With personnel changes over the last few years, they are not quite as top level as they used to be, but in our experience the care remains quite good---in contrast to what other many other reviewers seem to think. However their phones are handled by an incredibly inefficient automated system which makes it impossible to speak directly to even a receptionist. Follow up on messages is never prompt. Feedback about it has not resulted in any improvement. So, overall, a good practice provided you don't need to contact them urgently.
Started coming here about 6 years ago and it was great, since then I haven’t been able to see my doctor and when I send him a message someone else replies. I came and saw a different doctor who told me the issue I had didn’t exist and when I told him about being suicidal and not turning up to my job, he said “hmm I don’t think we can do anything for you” didn’t even give me a helpline contact number or anything. Obviously then I get charged a fee, also agree with other reviews that the receptionists loudly ask what you’re there for when it’s supposed to be confidential between nurses and doctors. Beyond appalled at how the doctors behave and am still trying to fine a new place to relocate.
GPs here are kind and as thorough as they can be in the limits of a pressured medical system. Dr Claire Hill is especially caring and knowledgeable. My family has been coming here for about 5 years. Dr Hucker also very supportive.
I suffer from ADHD, chronic Depression and generalized anxiety disorder, and the way these "nurses" treat you is utterly disgusting. I needed my medication, have it all sorted out with my doctor, missed an appointment, and just needed to have a little phone call to fix the issue. Instead I'm berated on how I missed my phone appointment (due to the fact I've been unable to sleep properly, and why I NEED my medication) made to feel like it's my fault, and then gate guarded for another month waiting for my medication, when a simple phone call for 5 minutes with my doctor would sort it out. She didn't even hear me out when I told her what was going on. Just assumptions on her half.
If you're looking for a doctors in New Plymouth, walk past this one. I've been going to this one for around 6 years. Most of the doctors are pretty good here, but the staff and reception are incredibly unprofessional, and unhelpful.
The receptionists were efficient and the nurse absolutely lovely. I can’t give enough credit to the nurse who listened well, was friendly and helpful. Unfortunately, my 2 stars is for my wasted time with the Dr. who didn’t listen/didn’t seem to understand what I was saying, didn’t make me feel comfortable, and had me out the door with my problem unresolved, in tears and instructing me to book another appointment next week. She showed a lack of concern for my tears and I was embarrassed to leave the room but was promptly ushered out regardless. When asked by the Dr why it’d taken me so long to see a Dr about my health concern, which meant my problem had escalated, which was due to Dr (lack of) availability, it seemed to be ridiculed. Won’t be seeing her again.
I swear it was good when I first joined, now it's terrible. They stopped one lot of my meds without warning, didn't even ween me off them as you are meant to do, and only fax through one part of your medication, say they will fax through the rest, 3 days nothing. I'm being charged for this poor service as well.this is people's health and well being they are messing with
Devon Medical Centre are the most rudest, unprofessional people I have ever encounted from a Medical Centre in all my life. They don't listen on reception, give you the run around, can't be bothered in the job. Dr Ann Edwards is the most rudest and non caring Dr I have ever had. Does not listen to your concerns, wavering her arm to get you out the door. I changed Dr's quick smart.
Unfortunately I received some incorrect information which lead to me not being prepared for a follow up doctors appointment.
Errors or mistakes happen, and the 3* is not due to the misinformation I received, I had a nice experience with the doctor and nurse, however as the rest of the reviews suggest the receptionist came across very rude and condescending. I felt like I was in trouble with my school teacher, with her questioning my story as if it was some sort of made up excuse.
From reading the other reviews it appears other people have had a similar experience, I did not want to give 1-2* stars as the facilities were nice and other staff are friendly and polite. I would suggest they have words with some of the receptionist staff, or perhaps it's the same individual.
