Best WLM Reviews

The hotel remains beautiful. However, a change of ownership in January 2023 has significantly decreased the service level and most importantly, the restaurant quality. ||||We had booked end 2022 the package le Chatelain 340€, which included one night, two breakfast, and two 6 course gastronomic diner with wine and champagne. Beginning 2023, I reached out to the hotel asking whether any further details were necessary before arriving in February 2023. I was then informed the ownership had changed and as such my package was no longer available. Instead of a 6 course gastro menu, a simple 3 course meal, which would require an extra 30 euros per person. When I called them back, after a few questions, they were able to figure out that we could be matched to the St valentine's package, but this would still cost an extra 40€ total, 385€ total. We obliged despite our dismay. ||||When we arrived, the hotel room was beautiful and clean. But as diner came, we soon understood that this would not be what we had been looking forward to. The diner was decent, but not at the level of the hotel. This was further confirmed at Breakfast, which was disappointing to say the least. All in all, this was definitely not the gastronomic experience, on the contrary. ||||In the end, when it came time to pay, we had to go looking for someone to check us out. They ended up asking us to pay the price of the St Valentine's package for the room only. I had to ask them to check it again, and had to refer to our exchanges. Luckily, we were able to get them back to the expected price. ||||All in all, beautiful rooms, beautiful hotel, but definitely not the place to go if you want fine dining, and especially for the price.
Great place to stay! Very old castle that has been newly renovated. ||||Excellent service and we had a nice meal in the restaurant in the evening.||||Beautiful rooms and garden with venison grazing next to it.
If you want to make the experience of Sacha Guitry's play "la fin d'un monde", look no further: a place that was once grand, and is no longer.||A change of ownership has been enough to ruin this place, which was unique in many respects: a perfectly renovated and modernised yet authentic and wonderfully cosy retreat deep in the Belgian Ardennes, with a wonderful cook.||Our last stay was however far from the mark, from the booking to the check-out. We finally managed to secure a table for two on a Saturday night in the middle of our three-night stay and were served a bland dinner of de-frozen scallops, followed by roe-deer (directly from the local Delhaize, although the surroundings are teeming with game - and hunters were staying at the hotel), a crème-brûlée obviously prepared by a mass provider (and recycled for the Sunday breakfast), and the "pairing wines" a despairing cheap Italian chardonnay and an obnoxious Portuguese red plonk... no wine list to choose from! Next morning the floor of the eating room had not been cleaned... On Sunday we were the sole two guests and no staff was available, save for a South-American trainee who did not speak English. I had to translate the wishes of would-be customers (a Danish family of four), who however declined to stay when told that the restaurant was not open. This is a countryside place and the next restaurant (if you can manage a booking) is 5 km away on misty road, not ideal after a few glasses of wine!!! We felt really sorry for the staff (mostly local students helping on weekends) who all bended backwards for us, but with very little means of making the clients happy. They were obviously exhausted as they had to take care of a techno-party in the brewery, which kept them very busy until 6 AM...||In short: gloomy feel of derelict and abandoned would-be jewel.||Prediction: bankruptcy by year-end.
this hotel is a find and perfect for a romantic weekend. service was kind, friendly, and went above and beyond by arranging flowers and chocolates upon request. rooms are decorated simply but elegantly, very clean, and nice bath products as well. very convenient to have a restaurant on site. would definitely recommend and go again.
Plenty to admire about this hotel - family run, which for a family visiting really puts one at ease and welcome. The two family kids were hanging around ready to play with our kids !||||The hotel is lovely - we had the family room which the kids loved with its separate kids bed area. Clean, comfortable, recently decorated and well furnished in excellent taste.||||The ground are lovely, the sitting rooms (yes, rooms !) were amply furished and very relaxing for coffee/drink after dinner. Massive garden at the back would be great in warmer weather.||||The hotel is in beautiful rural countryside.||||Food was excellent - simple but very fresh breakfast and bespoke evening meals cooked by local chefs.||||Perhaps the only caveat would be this is not a cheap hotel. However you know what you are paying in advance, so if you can afford it, i'd certainly recommend it.
To all outward appearances this is a lovely place - but the rubbish bin in our room contained the remains of the previous guest food parcel and we were over charged for drinks. To completely spoil our visit we were sat very close to a family with three badly behaved children (even though we were assured that we would be seated on the far side of the restaurant) and were completely put of our so called gourmet meal by one of the children throwing up on the dining table.||The indifference of the staff to our discomfort was breathtaking.||The food is very overpriced - our €20 starter were three dear pieces of fish (approx 2cm square with three blobs of green)
The room was cosy, large and well equipped. The chef cook prepared us a delicious vegetarian course, we were very pleased with it.
Great hotel, they were really able to maintain the classic feel of the building whilst also giving you enough luxury that you would expect from a hotel.
