Quick Facts About Childe of Hale

The Childe of Hale pub in Hale Village has received mixed reviews from customers. While some comments highlight the strengths of the establishment, such as the great food, friendly and attentive staff, and welcoming atmosphere, other comments point out weaknesses such as limited food choices, lack of vegan and gluten-free options, and subpar quality of some dishes. It is important to consider both the positive and negative aspects of the pub to get a comprehensive understanding of its strengths and weaknesses.
One of the strengths mentioned by customers is the quality of the food. One reviewer specifically mentions the steak, which was cooked perfectly with nice portions and a variety of sides. Another reviewer commends the delicious food and mentions the Stout Pie, stating that all the food is very good. The positive feedback on the food suggests that the pub takes pride in its culinary offerings and provides a satisfying dining experience.
The friendliness and attentiveness of the staff is another strength noted in the comments. Customers mention being warmly greeted upon arrival, with the staff even turning up the fire to make them more comfortable. The service is described as friendly, kind, and attentive, making customers feel welcome and valued. This level of hospitality contributes to a positive dining experience and encourages customers to return.
The pub's welcoming atmosphere is also highlighted as a strength. One customer mentions the pub being very hospitable and familial, creating a friendly and comfortable environment. Another reviewer praises the atmosphere, stating that it is homely and always make you feel important. A welcoming and cozy ambiance can greatly enhance the overall dining experience, making customers feel relaxed and enjoying their time at the pub.
On the other hand, there are several weaknesses that are mentioned in the comments. One customer points out that the pub does not offer a wide variety of food choices, with most dishes being meat-based. This lack of diversity limits the options for customers with specific dietary requirements or preferences, such as vegans and those with gluten intolerance. The absence of vegan options and a discernible lack of information on allergens or dietary requirements in the menu is seen as a weakness by another reviewer. They also note the absence of simple small plates like chips or jacket potatoes that are commonly found in pub menus.
The quality of some dishes is also criticized. One reviewer mentions that the soup of the day tasted lukewarm and was extremely salty. Additionally, the bread served with the soup was found to be soft and not up to expectations. Another customer mentions that the hunters chicken baguette had rubbery melted cheese and the bread was not crusty as it should have been. These instances suggest inconsistencies in the quality and execution of certain dishes, which could be a potential weakness affecting the overall dining experience.
The lack of cleanliness in the facilities is another weakness highlighted by a customer. They mention the absence of hot water for hand washing in the bathroom, indicating a poor maintenance standard. The uncleanliness of the baby changing facilities is also cited as a negative aspect. These cleanliness issues can be off-putting for customers and damage the reputation of the pub.
In conclusion, the Childe of Hale pub in Hale Village has its strengths and weaknesses. The positive aspects include the great food, friendly staff, and welcoming atmosphere, which contribute to an enjoyable dining experience. On the other hand, the limited food choices, lack of vegan and gluten-free options, inconsistencies in dish quality, and cleanliness issues are weaknesses that need improvement. It is important for the pub to address these weaknesses to maintain and enhance customer satisfaction.

Es gibt tolles Essen hier, alle ist sehr gut, vor allem Stout Pie (ähnlich Gulaschkuchen), wir waren schon zum 2. Mal hier, nette Bedienung! Sehr gastfreundlich und sehr familiär hier
I’m moving to Hale Village so I trying out the local eateries. I visited on Valentine’s Day without a booking but the staff cleared a table for me, were friendly, kind and attentive in their service. I had a steak which was great, cooked perfectly, nice portions with a variety of sides included. Overall a nice meal and friendly experience will definitely be back. Pub has dog friendly areas too!
From friendly staff, who turned the fire up to warm us on arrival, to varied food choice and lovely coffee and a beer. Very welcoming and service definitely with a smile. Hope to be back soon.
Went on a visit to Hale village with a friend and stopped off at the Childe of Hale pub for a late lunch. From the outside the pub looks like a small country pub however on the inside this was not the case. The pub is labelled as a Greene King pub however does not provide the Greene King menu which most if not all other Greene King pubs offer. We asked for some menus at the bar and went to find a table to sit down. There was not alot of space between some of the tables so not very pushchair/wheelchair friendly. When we sat down to look at the menus these were not very well written and did not really offer information on allergens or dietary requirements. On looking at the menu the food choices were very limited with almost every dish containing meat. There were no available food options for vegans or those with a gluten intolerance. The menu also did not offer any simple small plates like a bowl of chips or jacket potatoes some of the standard small dishes on most pub menus. When asking at the bar if they served soya milk or any kind of plant based alternative for milk we were informed that the pub doesnt stock this. While I do understand that there may not be very many vegans or people with dairy intolerance who visit this pub some form of plant based milk alternative even in small cartons which would then open up at least a few drinks options for vegans or those with a dairy intolerance. I ordered the soup of the day as a starter which was chicken and mushroom this looked like it had come out of a tin and had chunks of chicken and mushroom added into it in order to create the impression that the soup had been freshly made. On tasting the soup it was lukewarm at best and extremely salty. The bread that came on the side of the soup was a piece of baguette which was actually a bit soft and not really what you would expect to recieve with a bowl of soup. I also ordered a hunters chicken baguette which came with chips and salad as a main meal. The chips were just warm and nothing special. The salad was completely covered in some form of dressing which did not look appetizing at all. The bread was again not as crusty as it really should have been. The cheese melted on the top was also very rubbery in texture which was really disappointing. It was also very disappointing to go into a pub and not be able to just enjoy a meal with a friend due to there being no vegan options available at all other than a packet of crisps. After finishing eating I went to use the bathroom facilities in the pub which did not have any hot water for hand washing which I really hope was not the case throughout the entire pub. I was also informed by my friend that the baby changing facilities were unclean to say the least. Would not go here again and definitely would not recommend.
