The food here is so good! It was my first time going and I’ll be back to try everything on the menu. I spent less than $10 for the meatloaf, collard and cabbage greens, Mac n cheese & a pop. And I the meal came with cornbread (which was big and perfect).
-I got the meatloaf because I haven’t had some in so long and wasn’t disappointed. It looked like a big meatball that was very juicy. The sauce had a slightly sweet taste, I got a spoon to make sure I got as much of it with every bite.
-The greens had an unexpected little spicy kick and were so tasty! I wish I got some to go.
-The Mac n cheese was so soft and cheesy!
It's not bad it's just not very seasoned so you need to add your own and Dr it up. Not sure you can see from pic but chicken was hairy that's ok but it had no flavor like I don't think they brine etc the just dry seasoned mildly. The greens were great that's why I gave three stars, Mac n cheese was literally just that add your own. Overall it's like home cooking not restaurant so not bad.
The food is bussin! Everything is cooked from scratch continuously throughout the day. It taste like REAL soul food. The chitterlings was very clean and so good that you don’t need hot sauce. You get plenty of food for the price. I ate my meal there and ordered two more plates to go. This is my go to place and I will be back frequently!
Chitlings was amazing, Mac &Cheese was on point and the corn was delicious ???? Most definitely will be coming back for some more Chiltlings ???? Thank y'all for y'all service ????
My only complaint is that I wont have access to this amazing food until I return back to Chicago! Everything was ????????????????, from taste to temperature. I will definitely be coming back. And them chitterlings OMG the best I've ever eaten
The place was OK not great, just OK!
You're not getting quality food as you think you're getting. Mash potatoes are instant boxes, not made home made or from scratch. Just a glop of mush!
I dinner recommend you drop what you're doing to drop by. You're not getting everything advertised, and it's been sitting out all day. Their yams are from a can you can see that no love was put into the food.
Maybe food quality has gone down since the owners split. So it's no longer a black pen business. It's now just a Hispanic woman who is trying to save what her and her husband started.
Quality was not that great but happy to have try it to support local business.
Your better off driving to Madison and eat at Mac Authers for a bit of more better soul food.
Chef Daddy's has catered our Kwanzaa event at the Oak Park Public Library for two years.
The food is delicious and well priced. The portions are good and the service is impeccable!
The owner offers great suggestions to help tailor the menu to your event.

The rib tips are tender but NOT BAKED. The greens were well seasoned, the sweet potatoes were good, the macaroni was cheesy but not soupy.... everything was delicious!!
I highly recommend this restaurant for catering and dine in!
Suzy and her daughter were really friendly, our food was delicious and I wish I had seen them before. Their caramel cake is fantastic as well. We'll definitely go there again next time we visit Chicago.
