Best WLM Reviews
The Korean BBQ is wonderful. We chose “2pm combo” which was very filling. With the beef and pork being tender and flavorful. Although it may be, very salty. The rice portion they gave us was more than plenty to help delay the inevitable death of my kidneys. Overall, the place itself is nice. The smoke that’s made when cooking is easily ventilated through the open doors and windows. Although the bathrooms aren’t the best. I don’t care for it’s mainly food I care about.
My partner and I chose this restaurant for our date night so I made reservations. The restaurant is small, but nice & vibrant. They allow for outdoor seating with tall heating towers that keeps you warm & cozy during the winter. My partner & I tried the meatballs for the appetizer & they were AMAZING. Definitely some of the best meatballs I’ve ever had. For our entrée we selected the super junior and it was just our luck that they ran out of pork so we were able to replace the pork options with chicken, which was perfect for us. The meats provided were good. The rice was a bit mushy, but still edible. There weren’t many side vege options or sauce to choose from. The staff was wonderful, engaging & helpful. There was a bit of wait time to be seated & served, but it wasn’t bad. I plan to come back when the weather is a bit warmer to sit outside & try their wings! Definitely would recommend!
We got here later at night on the tail end of a date, so we could only choose food from the late menu, which was really short. We got the chicken wings, garlic fries, and then just had drinks. The wings were good, almost like sweet and sour wings. The garlic fries were very good, and came with a sort of dijon au jus to dip in. For drinks, we had the Boxcar Blues, which was perfect, followed by whiskey and vodka shots. Staff was helpful and gave attentive service, as we sat at the bar on the outside patio side. Yes, the heating lamps were also on, otherwise, we would've been freezing. For parking, you can park on the street, or in a parking deck nearby on this same street.
Didn’t even plan of being there, but definitely glad that I did. Great drinks, thanks Teddy, the soldier and the young lady behind the bar. Great conversation.
Great service and dogs are welcome on their patio. Everything we ordered was pretty good except for the vegetable tempura platter, the batter was too hard to eat and each piece was too chunky.
First review of the new year, starting off fabulously.
Char Korean Bar & Grill is located in a pretty bustling part of Midtown. Bartaco, BeetleCat, and many more are located around the same area. Has a very dive vibe, while keeping a similar aesthetic when it comes to Korean BBQ with the vents and grill.
Parking can be tricky, but there's an obvious easy choice, which is the parking garage. You can get free parking on the streets in front of the spot, but it's limited. No parking validation, sadly.
Prices range from $10 to around $100 in terms of what you can choose from. There's a few more pricey options, but I'll leave that up to others.
Seating is usually for 2 to 4 people, parties of larger sizes may have some trouble getting seated. Especially if it gets busy. There is seating at the bar, if that's your fancy.
Took my family of 5 to get lunch. From the Korean Street Sandwich to Crying Tiger Steam, Wagyu Steak to the Baos, everything came out fresh and hot. Taste was great, couldn't really ask for more given the style of food. Highly recommend to try whatever sounds good to you.
Our waiter Justin was also amazing. Attentive and always made sure to check on us if we needed anything else.
Overall this is a great spot for casual outings or even an intimate night out. It is usually an open air space, so bring a coat or jacket if the weather calls for one. They have a couple of space heaters for those that like to sit outside. Will definitely make another trip back in the future.
I rarely leave negative reviews. We came for a birthday. Entrées are close to $50/person, and yet the level of service is equivalent to that of The Varsity.
As a Gen Z, I can not express enough how bad service has to be for me to write a scathing review. They are SEVERELY understaffed. And I have sympathy for that. However, at this price point, I should not be fighting for my LIFE just to get service on a meal I’m cooking for myself. I get that Korean barbecue is similar to fondue in that the cooking is part of the experience. However, we did not receive an OUNCE of guidance on how to even cook/prepare our meal.
PLEASE spare your time and $70 after tax and tip and go to a restaurant with quality service AND they cook the food for you.
Cute bar. I stopped by randomly to enjoy a few drinks and the bartender was extremely nice. I’ll definitely return.
