I have been going to Chans over half my life, so thats 20years+
Back then the little lady at the front would know my family just by our voices on the phone. We use to have family gathering there at times. I DONT KNOW WHAT HAPPENED. They noted that their price increase was secondary to COVID19 and inflation, both of which I understand. But what happened to quality. In front of me is a carton of shrimp fried rice with salad shirmp. An veggie eggroll the size and quality that you would find in your standard Walmart freezer section. Dried chicken for both sweet and sour and honey sauces. If you're going to increase the price don't lose the quality. I am so disappointed with Chans and this sorry meal that setting across from me.. Gave my dog the eggrolls.
I used to like this place when I first moved here. It's been awhile so I figured I'd go back since they were so nice. Well it's new workers there. I ordered shrimp egg foo young and small white rice cuz I don't like it. N extra gravy. I get home at they put chicken fried rice in there and half the gravy leaked out. The best thing was the homemade tea. You can't mess tea up!!
First time trying Chan’s. The sesame chicken was good but the food was cold. The fried rice was also dry and tasted like it had been sitting there for a while. The serving size was good and the workers were friendly.
I'd take a pass on this Chinese restaurant.
Some of this review is my own experience, some, with emphasis, is straight rumors.
My own experience the food here isn't much beyond the frozen food Chinese section at a supermarket.
Especially the shrimp egg rolls. Moo Goo Gai ???? Pan same thing. Supermarket.
It is said that market based competition is a good thing because it fosters innovation and good customer service.
I'm not sure this would apply to this location. By my count there are two other quality Chinese restaurants within a mile and a half of this exact location that both serve authentic or at least better prepared Chinese food.
My last part of this review is pure rumors, rumors are never good as they often contain about 1/4 of the real truth.
But I've heard the rumor that the owner of Chan's Chinese restaurant is a very successful real estate developer and strip mall owner with long term leases, like this plaza and running a Chinese restaurant is really secondary as a part of this overall business plan. ⛩️
Pretty decent food and service. My go-to dishes/items here are the curry chicken or shrimp, fried chicken, lo-mein, and egg rolls. Also, my mother raves about a dish with a black bean sauce.
Burned egg roll vegetable lo mein had more noodles and no veggies. Too much sauce on the vegetable the light and 2-month sauce on the teriyaki wings please lighten up on the sauce it doesn't have to be that heavy my bag ripped I couldn't even bring it inside it's still all over in my vehicle
This was my first time trying Chan's & I love their food! I ordered the veggie fried rice with fried chicken, very fresh, Not oily, just right. Veggie eggrolls were also good, different but good. The egg drop soup hit the Spot!! Will return ????????
I have been eating at New Dragon on N. Main St. a few times a week since arriving in JAX. Pipping hot delicious foods, cheap too. Because they were closed on Mondays, I found Chan’s today. The guy who took the order was great and the food was ready fast. But the food was mediocre at the best. Also, their dry & crumbly white rice was the strangest rice that I’ve ever had. I won’t be going back.
