First time in Louisiana, and had to stop at this spot. Salad was great. Sweat tea was perfect. Wasn’t a fan of the fries but the catfish made up for it!!! I don’t go to a fish place for fries anyways haha. Ranch dressing was amazing too. And tartar sauce … mmmmmmm
I ordered a poboy and it had 6 shrimp all I could taste was bread and lettuce. I was really disappointed because it had been a long time since I had a po boyfriend home. My husband is Army and we have been away from the area for a very long time. I was disappointed by that experience. My fries were cold as well.
Came in on the re-opening night with the new owners. It was busy and thus the service was lacking on this night. Once we were helped, no issues so I look forward to going again soon. Food is good, just wish I had gotten the blackened instead of the fried, personal preference. Also wish the hush puppies had come early so i could have thrown the, to the kids to keep ‘em quiet.
Great food and service. Not noisy. Moderate prices. I welcome the return of the well stocked self-serve salad bar.
Brian and I been wanting catfish FOREVeR! So, a good friend told us about the Catfish Hut in Deridder. So we went on a Friday evening. It’s a straight shot from Fort Polk to Deridder on 171. It’s there on the left and easy to spot there on the left. Huge sign and arrow. Plenty of parking.
Went inside and was instantly greeted. One of the things I’m so proud of being a Louisiana gal myself, that instant feeling of warm welcomes when you walk in. We chose our seat and immediately asked what we wanted to drink. We both ordered some tea and some boiled shrimp and fried pickles. Then, we decided to explore. This place is HUGE! And, I mean huge. We walked into the back where there was a gathering of friends and families from church. Again, everyone said hello and even thanked my husband for his service. They were just delightful.
Our food was ready. I can’t even begin to tell you how fresh and hot everything was. The shrimp had the perfect amount boil. It was sooooo good. As we’re eating, we’re chatting with everyone around us. We just loved it. I noticed some fresh honey jars and asked about them. The gentleman that has hives came over and told us all about his farm. Our evening was just perfect. You do need cash to purchase the honey. It’s separate from the restaurant. I went back several days later and purchased a jar. We’re in honey heaven.
So if you’re ever in Deridder, Louisiana- go by the Catfish Hut and tell them Brian and Candice Cartwright said “hey”. Best groceries, company and atmosphere ever!
Big change in the taste and service,new owners!fried thick fresh catfish is the best,fried shrimp is good too,hush puppies is a must,and idk know of any other restaurant in this area that has hush puppies,????good,small country lil whole in the wall place
Best food in town only place I eat come all the way from Florida to eat me some great seafood
We arrived at 4:50 pm, but didn’t get waited on till almost 6:00pm. It is now 6:5 pm, and we still haven’t received our order. Everyone else is ready to leave, and we haven’t even eat yet. This is absolutely ridiculous! Wont be back anytime soon!
