I really hate writing negative reviews and generally only take the time to write a review if it was positive but my haircut was bad enough to the point where I feel that I have to warn others. I came in with a simple request which I have never had trouble with. All I wanted to do was clean up the sides and take half an inch off the top. Next thing you know I look down and I see 2+ inch strands of hair falling down from the top of my head. Was this due to incompetence? Arrogance? Probably a mixture of both.
I'm choosing to take this experience as a lesson learned. Instead of going to my regular and proven barber, I chose to give the local barbershop a shot as it was a short walk away and I just needed a quick maintenance haircut. Never again.
Update April 2024: I remain a loyal customer to this barber shop. Truly the best cut in Manhattan. I have lots of respect for my barber and now consider her a friend. I don't want to rave too much, else it will get too busy.
No appointments, and bring cash to pay, and leave a generous tip.

Update April 2021, once the shop reopened, I started coming back, and Violeta has been my barber. She is absolutely fantastic and very friendly. She works on Fridays and Saturdays, so I also make sure to plan my haircuts around her availability.

Walked in first thing Saturday for a haircut with Jimmy. We connected over Central FL and got a great haircut with a great conversation from a great barber.
Finally had an authentic Barber Shop open up where I work! This place is brand spanking new and does a great job. Mel is a charming guy who gives a great haircut (even if I can't understand all of his small talk). Just try and guess his age! I bet you can't!
Not good with straight and stubborn Asian hair. Hair looks extremely choppy and unkempt. Disappointed.
Violeta is by far the best barber I've ever had in my 33 years; she's been cutting my hair for about five years now. I work in finance and get my haircut every 3 weeks or so on average. Her attention to detail is impeccable, and I just couldn't be any happier. She's also such a kind hearted person and simply is a pleasure to speak to regularly
Violeta is the best! I just moved to NYC for work and needed a new barber, and she is phenomenal, her attention to detail is expert and her years of experience show, would definitely give this place a try if you're in need of a haircut! -David
Got a great haircut from Mark - who I found to be incredibly professional and friendly. The price was also completely reasonable (I think $25) considering the amount of care and precision he used. At the end of my haircut, he invited me to have a quick drink of whiskey, which I declined at the moment but will more than likely be taking him up on in the future.
I would absolutely recommend this barbershop to all of my friends. Great first impression from Mark - I will definitely be a repeat customer.
Fantastic experience, barber is very skilled, efficient and makes great conversation.
