They kicked my 3-year-old and me out of California Haircuts because, and I quote, 'they couldn’t have a crying kid in the store.'
I called California Haircuts (located in Lafayette on Mt Diablo) early this morning to make an appointment for my 3-year-old this afternoon. I mentioned his age when making the appointment, so they were aware of his young age well in advance. We arrived on time for our appointment, and after a brief 10-minute wait, which was not a big deal, they were ready for us. My son started crying because he didn’t want his hair cut just as we sat down in the salon chair. I was about to take out my phone to calm him down with a video, knowing he would then allow them to cut his hair because he has at other places, this wasn’t his first haircut, but they didn’t give me the chance. Seconds after sitting down, another stylist approached us and said, 'I need you to leave because we can’t have a crying kid in the store.'
This place is absolutely NOT family-friendly. If you have young kids, I recommend avoiding this salon. They showed no patience nor empathy for my child and made it clear they do not welcome them in their store. It was a complete waste of time and an extremely rude experience.
I wouldn’t give them any stars at all, but the systems forces me to give them at least one.
You definitely get the value you pay for… I don’t mean that in a good way either. Left my boyfriends hair choppy, uneven, and way too short. They don’t really follow pictures either. The good thing is that it’s cheap, and the staff are pretty friendly and nice, which is the only reason i’m giving more than 1 star, but it doesn’t really make up for a bad haircut that’ll take months to grow back. I wish it could be better as my boyfriend likes the people here and it’s close to home. Unfortunate.

When you go to your favorite coffee place, your sandwich shop, your place to get whatever to get you through the day, it's always efficiency over quality. California Haircuts always produces quality hair care, and it's always worth the wait.
I go here for all my haircuts, and they always are able to fit me in quickly even without an appointment, and they perfectly cut my hair every time. They let you relax here too while you get your hair cut, and you don't have to carry on a big conversation if you'd rather just relax and enjoy the haircut ???????? Anyways great place highly recommended.

My go to for a fantastic cut - I have been coming here for 10+ years after despairing of ever finding a great hairdresser. Asked my daughter’s friend (who always looked amazing) who cut her hair, and she sent me here. ❤️❤️
Took my 2 year old grandson for his first haircut. Marianna was excellent. Kept singing kids tunes to him the whole time while trimming, and cutting. Using both scissors and electric trimmers. She was fast (10 minutes) and very astute dealing with him while he sat on my lap. And the haircut looked really nice on him.
