My wife and I went to Caliente in Aspinwall for lunch, everything was amazing! Food, service, and atmosphere! This was our first visit and we tried the Motor City pie…hands down the best pizza we’ve ever had! Our waitress Erin was amazing and pointed us in the right direction for our first visit.
Overall the food we got was good however the Grandma Ruffa pizza was lacking on Ricotta in both the amount given and the finesse in placement...it looked like a pigeon randomly pooped on the pizza. Although we ordered the basic breadsticks they were just bare of anything...not very appetizing. For 5 items it cost $130... I guess maybe I expected a little more from our food. Nothing stood out as a "Wow this is awesome" and quite honestly there's a lot of competition out there that would love to have our business too. We probably won't return. Maybe they need more customers to do reviews so they can truly understand what areas need improvement. I'm ABLE to spend the money but I'm not WILLING to spend the money on something I'm not 100% satisfied with.
Dinner on a Wednesday, not so busy. Staff very friendly and attentive. Had the hush puppies?, spinach rolls, and grandma's pizza with pep ham and onions. I'd definitely get all that again but next time I'm trying something different.
Just being honest- getting take-out from Caliente isn't so great. But dining in is a much better experience. Caliente in Aspinwall is a great, neighborhood bar. The pizza is best when it comes directly to your table, hot and fresh, from the kitchen. The menu has some unique and tasty items. Caliente does the crust really well and their calzone dough, too.

I ordered a pizza and I was absolutely stunned when it was delivered. It looked like a bread bowl with a little bit of soup that was pepperoni and cheese in the middle. I can honestly say it was the absolute worst pizza I've ever had. The idea that someone who works there would okay that pizza to go out for delivery much less to a table where could be returned is absolutely incomprehensible
Cozy homelike sporty pizza and bar. Great pizza, appetizers, salads, and wings. Fast service. Had 2 apps, wings, pizza, salad, and drinks. Reasonable pricing. Good portions and friendly staff.
I thought the food was quite good but also expensive for a pizza joint. There are other places nearby that offer a similar quantity and quality of food that are less expensive. In either case, I tried the cinnamon donut balls with the raspberry sauce and the spinach feta rolls.
The spinach feta rolls were more like spinach rolls with tiny bits of feta here and there. Don't get me wrong, spinach is great, and they seemed to be using decently high quality spinach...but I was hoping for more feta flavor. The size was adequate but not huge as some others described. They are brushed with a nice cheesy dusting. The marinara sauce was tasty and had real tomato chunks.
The cinnamon donut balls were very good. They are coated in more than ample amounts of sweet cinnamon, and I really enjoyed them. The portion is great for the rice. I also really enjoyed the fruity raspberry side, although it was somewhat syrupy. Cooked well and delicious as a dessert.
All in all, I enjoyed my meal, but I wouldn't say it's the best pizza place in Pittsburgh or anything of that sort. Their pizza and calzones are far more expensive than in other places. Quality is pretty high, though, and I would definitely recommend the cinnamon donut balls for a treat.
