First of all, the only reason I ordered from Café Rio was because Costa Vida was closed. This is the last time I will ever order from them. I ordered a sweet pork salad and chips and salsa… Simple. However, I literally got a bag full of tortilla strips. A worker seriously filled a bag full of just tortilla strips and sent it my way. I feel like that was a completely deliberate “I don’t care “about the customer. And for the salad, I know they usually put less meat than someone would like, but I only got two bites worth of meat in my salad. Their quality has gone to $h** over the last year or so. I used to love those place. But this was deliberate. Don’t waste your time.
UPDATED REVIEW:
I haven't been impressed with this location lately.
We called Cafe Rio on Christmas Eve to see what time they closed. They said 8:00pm, so we made sure to put in our order at least an hour before closing (6:55pm). Our order was supposed to be ready at 7:10, but it wasn't ready until 7:27. We stood there for at least 15 minutes before someone even spoke to us. I'm not sure why our order was so late because they weren't very busy.
Right after we walked in at 7:10, one of the employees locked the main doors and then put a note on the other door that said "we are closed because it is 24. No enter." A few people walked in right after he put up the sign (which he shouldn't have put up yet) and he got mad at them and kicked them out. Another employee spoke to him in Spanish and told him he shouldn't do that because of the cameras. He didn't seem to care though.
The food and service at this location has definitely gone downhill.

Delicious! We had this for our Christmas Eve dinner. I had the sweet pork quesadilla on a wheat tortilla, my boyfriend had the sweet pork burrito smothered in sauce (with habanero sauce on the side), my oldest had the chicken salad, and my youngest had the chicken quesadilla.
All of us loved our food. I usually always get the red sauce (hot), but I think I’m going to get habanero from here on out. It was sooo good and not too hot at all.
We placed our order to go. When we got there, it was all ready for us and sitting on the counter. We were in and out in less than 3 minutes.
We love cafe rio and will be back soon.
Cafe Rio used to be a great place but this last visit was very disappointing. We usually get the sweet pork burrito enchilada style with the hottest sauce available and it seems to get worse with each visit. We do not visit often but enjoy the food when we go the initial few times when it was new in the area. Sweet pork was small in portion compared to the rice and beans and often missing from bites. Rice is OK but I prefer to just have beans most of the time. Service was good and nice and the new layout is decent. If you want an OK burrito then this is the place and it is big enough for two meals for some but lacks meat.
The ladies that make your food were just fabulous, the food is amazing and I got the right food this time!
This is the third time….. Correction, fourth time we have found bugs in our food. Each one was a salad, so beware if you get a salad from this place. The photo is actually a video and you can see the little legs moving and everything. Just beware of this when you eat at the Layton location. However, judging by the cleanliness of the others I would assume they are the same. Let’s do better Cafe Rio…. You used to be good.
Ordered a sweet pork salad and they left off half the toppings and tortilla on the sode. Went back to the store to get it fixed and the best they offered was the give tiny side order cups of the missing items. Got home and they left off 1 of the toppings again.
I am severely and utterly disappointed with my experience. And it’s this specific location. I normally don’t do reviews, but the service I just received forced me to write a review in hopes that management can amend the problem. I arrive to the restaurant an entire HOUR before closing. All the tables were put up, cleaning was happening while there were STILL CUSTOMERS TRYING TO EAT. I find that extremely disrespectful. I approach the counter to put in my order, and ALL the food items were already put away and cleaning was happening. EVERY. SINGLE. ONE. Puzzled, I asked the young man who was nearest me politely if they were done serving food. He looked at me dumbfounded and said, very rudely, as if I were stupid for asking “uhh yeah.” I said “you don’t close until 10?” He proceeds to pull his phone from his pocket to look at the time and again, very rudely says, “uh yeah.” And I stated that wasn’t for another hour. He looked side to side, glared at me for a few seconds before saying, again very rudely and as if I were stupid, “uhhhh yeah.” Then walked away without helping me any further. I love cafe Rio, but unfortunately do to this experience I will no longer be frequenting this establishment at this location. First of all, cleaning should not be done while customers are still eating. Second of all, food should not be put away an entire HOUR before closing. Thirdly, paying customers should not be turned away so rudely. And finally, all of the employee duties that happen at closing SHOULD HAPPEN AT CLOSING (10 PM!!!). Not an ENTIRE HOUR BEFORE. Severely and utterly disappointed. I hope a manger sees this and makes the change. Lost a loyal customer right here.
Very disappointed. I got a salad to like to go and there was water in the bottom of my tray, the tortillas were soaked. My lettuce tastes horrible like it was old and the end of a bag or so. I’ve never had a salad like this
