Best WLM Reviews
After a few visits over the past years, I’ll say they’ve had their ups and downs.
For the sake of brevity, I’ll touch on what i believe to be the pro’s and con’s of this establishment.
PROS: Friendly & Personable service, cold beer, large bar area, plenty of tables. Lots of pool tables. Great burgers, bartenders do well for generic cocktail options.
CONS: Service can be slow at times, especially away from the bar. Not many beers on tap. Some menu items lack flavor. Bartenders aren’t well versed or trained on more specialty cocktails.
Otherwise, fair prices and alright food for a small town. In a place where we aren’t offered many options, this is a solid choice for a weekend stop in. Thurs - Sun would be your best bet, slow otherwise. Great place to watch a game!
Tonight was not B&B’s best effort.
I knew we were off to a rough start when the server said that most beers were not available because of maintenance on the brewing equipment. I got a decent IPA but B&B did not have an ordinary wheat beer for my wife.
Wife ordered a medium rare 6oz sirloin. Steak arrived well done. Sent the well done steak back to the kitchen. Second steak was medium rare but not very warm. How could it just come off the grill and not be warm? Steak was mostly flavorless. The piece of steak my wife ate and the piece my brother tried both ended up on their plates because they couldn’t get past the gristle in the meat. The garlic mashed potatoes had an intense raw garlic flavor that left us feeling that we had just bit into a raw garlic clove instead of a potato dish infused with a roasted garlic flavor.
I ordered a cup of chili and a smoked chicken Caesar salad. I was served the chili and a smoked chicken sandwich. I notified our server and he brought me the salad and said I now had a free sandwich. Caesar salad was nothing but Romaine lettuce with some shredded cheese. The smoked chicken was three pieces of cold chicken breast. The chicken had no flavor. I gave my wife a piece and she could not detect any smoked flavor nor any other flavor. I tried the chicken in the sandwich, and that chicken seemed to have some smoky flavor. The chili had an odd sweet taste. I was a little surprised that my chili wasn’t comped considering the weak quality of the food.
Server was decent and honest about what was good on the menu. Too bad the kitchen crew didn’t do their part in providing tasty and hot food.
Five stars all around for Bull and Bones! This establishment truly exceeded our expectations. The food was exceptional, with each dish thoughtfully prepared and bursting with flavor. The beer selection was outstanding, showcasing a variety of styles brewed in-house. The ambiance was inviting and cozy, making us feel right at home. Service was top-notch, with staff going above and beyond to ensure a memorable dining experience. Highly recommend to anyone looking for a fantastic meal!
Five stars doesn't seem like enough to rate Bull and Bones! This place is an absolute standout. The food is exquisite, with each dish bursting with flavor and creativity. The beer selection is impressive, featuring a variety of styles to suit every taste. The atmosphere is cozy and inviting, perfect for a casual meal or special occasion. Service was attentive and friendly, making us feel right at home. We'll definitely be back for more!
Our first stop in Blacksburg has always been Bull & Bones. We haven't been in town in a couple of years and and couldn't wait to get here! We were so disappointed to see that it is nothing like it used to be. We were there during a football game when the place was crowded, as expected, and there were TWO servers. Our service was super slow - could not even get drink refills. The worst part, though, was the quality of the food. What used to be the best steak in the area was the WORST. The picture I am including is a steak cooked medium. You will notice there are zero juices on the plate from when I cut the steak. My mom's was even worse. I told her the steaks were leftover from the previous day and I do believe this to be true. I have had some bad steaks in my life and this was by far the worst I have ever had. We watched half of the game (intended to watch the whole thing) and left because we couldn't even get drinks. I am sad to see a life-long tradition end, but we will never be back to Bull & Bones. I spent $90 and could have gotten a better meal at McDonald's.
Unfortunately I did not get the great experience, nor the good food like others may say. My friend and I went to dinner here on a Saturday night, which was also buffet night since graduation was that day. We were happy of all the choices…. but then we soon realized all the food was cold. In the beginning, they did not warn us of the price of it either. After a cold meal, I was shocked to see my bill of 60$. Just for the food and one drink. I had high hopes for this place, but I am saddened of how it made us feel the next day as well.
We tried their buffet. Food was cold, meat was tough or dried out and the rolls were dried out and hard. Management did not know how to handle a buffet. It may have been because the price was set at $50 per so there were very few customers so the food sat longer than it should have. This was about 6:00 pm. Service was poor, why have them at a buffet. Why do I have to ask for a spoon and sugar for coffee. I would suggest that the manager learn the restaurant buffet business or don't do it. I won't be back.
This was one of the most disappointing meals I have ever had. The beer that I wanted of course was tapped out. The Mac & cheese w/pulled pork was served cold, the cheese wasn't even melted. I sent it back and it was still slightly warmer but let's face it I wouldn't have trusted it if sent back again. They obviously had no work ethic or professionalism. The manager didn't even check on us after the food was sent back. I would strongly recommend not wasting your money or time with the poor food, service or lack of should I say.
