Not to be confused with the national chain of a similar name, this is a local establishment that's worth a try. It largely features fried or blackened seafood, and provides excellent examples of that genre. Had a moonshine margarita, which was pretty good as well. Prices exceedingly reasonable for a beachside establishment.
I must say that I am impressed with Bubba’s. The service was spot-on, friendly and attentive.
We both had the First Mate platter and you choose two items from the list. I had the blackened grouper and fried oysters, my wife had the blackened mahi mahi and fried shrimp.
Having spent many years in Florida I’ve come to know good grouper and this one didn’t disappoint. It had the perfect amount of “heat” and the fried oysters were delicious.
The mahi mahi was a bit over cooked and dried out, hence the 4 star rating for food. It was just a bit over baked. The shrimp were lightly coated in flour and seasoned perfectly. I was expecting them to come out with a thick coating like pop corn shrimp typically have but these were coated nicely and seasoned perfectly.
We both had cups of clam chowder. I was expecting a small cup and when the waitress came out with the soup, it was in large bowls and nice portion sizes. The clam chowder was wonderful.
There is free parking in the front lot so don’t pay for parking.
Overall we were very pleased with the food even though the mahi mahi was very dry.
We had a great afternoon on the beach and wanted seafood. We really liked the atmosphere, and the choices on the menu were perfect. When the check arrived, it offered a $50 gift card that gives you a $10 gift card. We figured we would go back, so we asked for that deal. After taking my credit card, they returned, saying the $10 gift card was no longer available. We stated we were disappointed, but figured they had my credit card, so just get the $50 gift card anyway. That started a mess. They brought us the wrong check to sign and the gift card. I immediately questioned the ticket. They said it got me "close to $10 off" and to just sign it, and it would be ok. Turns out they ran my card for both checks. It took 2 phone calls, and 5 days for it to get right with my bank. Next time- I just use cash!
First thing you should know is the parking is free at Bubba's Fish Shack. Don't do like me and pay $7.30 for 2 hours of parking in the pay lot behind Bubba's. There was a food truck making a delivery and I didn't notice this fact until after I had already paid and walked around the truck.
I ordered the all-you-can-eat catfish. The order had 3 huge filets, along with fries and hush puppies. It was all I could do to finish the fish and half my fries and half of the hush puppies. No way I could eat any extra fish. Everything was really good and their prices are reasonable.
We showed up an hour before closing and the staff seemed very excited for us to be there and sat us immediately. The server was very friendly and quick on his feet. We never had to wait for long to receive anything requested. The food was hot and super tasty. All 6 of the people that were there truly enjoyed our meals. If we are back in the area we will be coming back here.
All I’m going to say is the food is good, and we had the BEST WAITER!!!! His name is Carlos and he made our outting wonderful!!! We were traveling through and found this place via Google. We decided to stop in and give it a try! The place did not disappoint as it was cozy, home feeling, and again our waiter was the best !
My friend and I were going to order to-go at the bar when we walked in, but we liked the place so much that we decided to stay. The bartender gave us great service, the food was delicious, and we enjoyed the atmosphere. We ordered a shrimp basket, hush puppies, and a shrimp po boy, all were perfection. We took two tee shirts for the road, and we were so happy we stayed to eat instead of doing takeout!
Just had a late lunch. Had tge Captain's platter with Catfish, Scallops, Blackened Mahi, and Shrimp. Patty the server was friendly & informative. Would highly recommend to anyone traveling to Myrtle Beach.
