A decent place. We went on a Thursday and only one person was cooking and running the place. Prepare yourself to wait patiently. The wait is worth it. The empanadas were delicious and so was the dinner.
Don't be alarmed if you come in and don't see a staff member for 5 minutes-- the owner is probably cooking and will speak to you once the food comes out. The owner is also the host, waiter, bartender, and chef. If you understand that and are patient, you'll be rewarded with a delicious and authentic meal for a very reasonable price. We were in and out in less than an hour on a Sunday night.
If you ask for water, you may get bottled water for $1.50.
Service was amazing, the gentleman that served us was extremely nice. The meal itself was excellent everything was fresh and very flavorful. I will most certainly be back when I drive through Ames it was worth the detour!
We waited a while - only one man working the kitchen and tables, we were the only customers - but it was most certainly worth the wait. Super impressed, exceptional flavor. Brought me back to my childhood days eating fresh arepas cooked by a Colombian woman my friends hosted while she taught at our school. Definitely worth stopping here!
The food was so tasty, I will definitely be back. Be sure to go early because it will take a while to get your food but good things take time.
This restaurant is insanely good!! I found it very impressive how one person is running the whole show (attending the table, cooking the food, etc.). Because of that, it is a long wait, but very worth it! This place deserves more love. Would highly recommend and he gives you A LOT of food!
Literally Amazing Authentic Colombian Food, Have Never Had Such Good And Flavored Beef Liver Like This Plate That I Just Had! Every Single Bite Was Worth The Wait! Definitely Will Be Coming Back For Some More! Freshly Cooked And Perfectly Seasoned!
First trip to Botanero's. My first foree' with South American food. Must say, probably the best Nachos I've ever had. Everything from the chips(salted to perfection) to the meat and the greens was AWESOME. Guacamole, sour cream, cilantro, with lime over everything, just a drizzle of hot sauce, very well done. Only comment was the chips were stuck to the plate, because the cheese had cooled to the point it became hard.
The steak was perfect. Absolutely tender, almost cut it with my fork! Not sure what kind of sauce was under the egg, but it was delicious. The rice and beans were perfect, expertly seasoned, as was the side salad. All in all, one of the best meals I've had in Ames, ever.
As others have said, be prepared to wait, almost 40 mins for small nachos, then main course about 20 mins later, minimum of 90 mins there.
