Best WLM Reviews

Traditional home cooked food is worth checking out. Went with a large group of 20 people and service was great. We tried the rocky mountain oyster and were pleasantly surprised.
There truly isn't much I could complain about when it comes to Boss Hogs. Elaine almost always waits on us (me and the 'rents), and she's sweet and funny and very efficient. I've had other menu items in the past, but lately it's all about me and my relationship with the "BOSS HOG BURGER". It's a humongous double-patty decadent delight, on a super fresh bun, cooked to perfection. You have a number of sides to choose from, but the fries win me over every time. Made from fresh cut potatoes with the skin still on, they are greasy (but not in a bad way!), and magical and delicious, and what every other fry aspires to be! My parents both rave about the fries as well, and I've never heard them complain about a single other thing here--they both love the chicken fried steak, AND the onion rings, and the occasional rib eye! (The salad bar ain't too shabby either!)
There are not many foods options left in La Junta. I think many of the reviewers that posted harshly need to be realistic. We're on a cross country trip and at the end of the day, I want decent food, a cold beer and good service. We found all that here. I had the ribs and my husband had the chicken. The chips and salsa was really good. The food was tasty and hot. Our server was very friendly and helpful.
When you are in the mood for steak, you just have to try a place called Boss Hogg's - even if it is just one visit.
1. Having read some of the previous and recent reviews, I was not sure what to expect but we decided to take a chance.
2. Cleanliness - the parking lot was clean of trash, the bathrooms were acceptable, but with two toilets in the ladies' room and no separating wall or doors, it left some to be desired. The rest of the restaurant seemed clean and the tables were not sticky.
3. Staff - welcoming and friendly. Even though not overly busy, she was attentive to filling our drinks when empty.
4. We tried a couple of appetizers including the chicken butts and the snake bites. Both are built around a jalapeño popper and were incredible. Probably the best we have ever eaten.
5. Three of us got a salad from the salad bar and it was just an ok option. Only one type of lettuce and the rest of the options were for toppings like cheese, croutons, bacon bits, cherry tomatoes, etc.
6. On to the rest of the food:
A) Probably best baked potato I have had in a very long time.
B) Homemade bread was very tasty, although the end piece was a little on the crusty side like it had sat for awhile.
C) Being a saloon as well, all types of drinks were on offer.
D) The smoked chicken is possibly the best we have ever had. It was not overpowering and was an entire half of a chicken.
E) This is where things were a bit of a letdown - the steak and the fries. Three different steaks were purchased. The fat was grisly and not one of the three were cooked correctly (two mediums and one medium-well). They were bland at best and obviously not a good cut of meat. This may not always be the case but it was with us. If we returned, we would get the chicken before we got the steak again. As for the fries, they were homemade, but had zero flavor like the chef for the day forgot to add any seasonings including salt.
F) Another purchase was the blue cheese burger which was very tasty and a generous size. Again, fries were not great.
Overall impression, the steak was not worth the price, but the appetizers, burgers, and chicken was definitely worth it. We would probably try this place again even though a little on the pricey side.
This place had the best burgers we have had in years. The portion sizes are huge! Don't fall for the Google reviews on more modern looking spots. You want THIS place.
Food was average but overpriced. I ordered the club sandwich for 11.95 and the chicken butts for 9.95 and a Dr Pepper and it came to $31 ? Between tax and the Dr Pepper i must have been charged over $9. Hmmm. When i ordered it for pickup i was told by the bar person it would be 15-20 minutes. Turned out to be 40. She was very pleasant but they need to manage exoectations better. Not likely to eat her again.
The ladies who served us seemed nice. Their food was not the best. I had mushroom buttons and a grilled chicken salad... the chicken was bland kinda odd tasting and served in some type of juice in the bowl... their house margarita was too sweet and tasted kinda watered down version of a premade mix.
My friend ordered a Mexican dish and wad very unsatisfied with her meal also. I admittedly took my leftovers to go and gave them to a gentleman in need of a meal. It's better to help than throw away.
La Junta is still searching for a steak house or bbq restaurant and Boss Hogg's Saloon is not either of these. Went to dinner with the family and was not impressed.
1. The rueben connoisseur made her order. They used a pickle fort to portion the sauerkraut and there wasn't any dressing. The whole thing was dry. The fries had been checked into hospice and were on life support before they came to the table.
2. The catfish sandwich was likewise dry. They brought a bottle of mayo and then took it away. The fries were in a coma, limp and lifeless.
3. BLT had all the ingredients and the fries were DOA.
4. I had a bake potato with a lot of butter and sour cream packets. Lucky for me there was pepper on the table.
