Fantastic! THE BEST! We had a top-notch experience celebrating our bride-to-be with a Bridal Brunch at Black Rock yesterday! The food was DELICIOUS and beautifully presented! Our servers, Jackie and Kaesha were extremely friendly, attentive, and so easy to communicate with! These ladies definitely went above and beyond to make sure all party attendees were happy and well taken care of!
I’d like to include a huge thank you to Jennifer (manager) for her willingness to work with me in creating such an incredible experience for all! Several guests commented on how the table arrangement (boardroom/conference table style) was awesome, and absolutely perfect in accommodating our larger group; everyone felt comfortable and included!
Cheers to Black Rock, Grand
Rapids!
We went on Saturday afternoon before dinner, and it was the perfect time. It wasn't overly busy. I was talked into getting my meal on the rock by the awesome wait staff. It did not disappoint!! Our server took his time and showed me the process while also explaining the why. I got the trio with steak, shrimp, and a scallop. It was fantastic. I really like the booths they have. Very roomy! I'm on the fluffy end of the spectrum, and the seating is very comfortable. I really wish I could remember our servers name. He was AWESOME! So very good at his job. He really needs to be recognized, but my 50 year old brain is not accommodating.
I came here with a bunch of coworkers for a end of your work party and we all had a really good time. We all really enjoyed the cooking on The Hot Rock experience. The service were very friendly and very efficient and the beer was cold.
Fun experience. You can cook your own steak on a ridiculously hot rock right at your table. The food was ok. The experience was more enjoyable. They have a large bar with plenty of tvs. Cooking at the table will put butter and smoke in the air, on your clothes and your phone. Be prepared to smell like cooked meat for a while. Nothing wrong with that. It seemed reasonably priced for what you get. The quality was ok. The staff was attentive and the place was busy. Call ahead if you can. I would eat your sides first, or they'll get cold while you play chef. I did like their lobster bisque. The Mac and cheese was unremarkable. I'd go back but not too often. I'm still getting a whiff of the place on me now and then ????.
Love this place they give you the ability to prepare and cook your own food to your desired with a black stone. Unbelievable customer service and great tasting food. A must stop when in Grand Rapids at the Woodland Mall.
Let me start out by saying our server was great. It was our first time here and he took the time to answer our questions. He was very polite and helpful and greeted us with a smile.
The rest of what I have to say about Black Rock isn't as nice.
We were in a party of 8. Even though I called ahead for priority seating we still waited about 15 minutes even though there wasn't anybody waiting for a table. I felt they should've had a table ready. Of course if they'd been busy I'd get the wait, but we went mid afternoon between lunch and dinner and it was truly not busy, plus I had called ahead by a couple days.
In my opinion the food was sub par. Using the lava rock for cooking it is a fun gimmick and those that ordered their meal that way had a lot of fun and we all had some good laughs. But a few of us ordered other items. I had the BBQ ribs and not only were they fatty, not fall off the bone food, but we're cold. Definitely not worth the price since I hardly had any meat. Several of us had cold items with our meal. The asparagus was ordered by 5 people and they all used the rocks to cook them more and warm them up. Even though they all didn't have meals with the heated rocks. I also had a baked potato and it was so dry and the skin was so tough I had to work to cut it. I basically didn't finish my meal because it just wasn't good. I felt like it had sat around for awhile and they quickly microwaved it and brought it to the table. I definitely think the potato sat under the heat lamp a little to long. And, I was totally grossed out that my water glass was dirty. There was stuff smeared on the inside of the glass closet to the rim and also on the inside. Looked like cream or butter, not sure what it was, but it was enough to kill my appetite.
Overall we had a nice time because of the company, but all of us agreed we wouldn't go back. The experience wasn't good and for the price, and the fact that when we do eat out we have lots of places to choose from in Grand Rapids, I wouldn't recommend. I was so disappointed because the ads I've seen for this restaurant made the food look amazing, and it just wasn't that at all.
Sorry Black Rock, but you under performed and we won't be back.
This was our first experience and it was amazing!!! The food was delicious the drinks were very good and the dessert was amazing. Mason was our server and he did an amazing job!! He checked back several times to ensure we were satisfied and if we needed anything. That's excellent service!! We will definitely make another visit soon!!! We came her for our sons birthday and were not disappointed.
My friend commented to me one time that "As long as it not my last meal, it's a good meal" . We visited Black Rock Bar&Grill in Grand Rapids while entertaining a friend in town. I had heard about Black Rock on radio commercials and the thought of cooking on a lava rock at the table sounded fun and entertaining. When walking in we noticed the high ceilings and numerous TVs throughout. We also noticed that the floor was a bit slippery like it needed cleaned. We were seated quickly and our server was pleasant but we soon realized she was new to the service industry and untrained. At the risk of sounding rude I will stop there. But it was surprising and was even comical when we asked for a wine caraf the manager came over to inform us that they "do not serve craft wine" when we explaiined to her the purpose of what the wine caraf does she said she could just "crack the bottle open early" if we wanted. The restaurant was smokey and needs a better ventilation system. They were also out of several menu items such as rib eye steak, 8 oz fillet, baked potato, wine selections, even coffee creamer. The bill was incorrect and had to be reprinted as we were charged for steak they were out of and incorrect drink orders. All in all an entertaining evening on many levels. The food was just OK and the overall experience was the same. The novelty of cooking ones own steak on a black rock could not overcome the many issues we experienced.
