That was one hell of a burger! so I have this thing where I eat a certain food whenever I go to a new restaurant, so that I always have a good baseline to compare against. For example, whenever I go to a Thai restaurant, I always order Pad Thai. Because I figure if you don't know how to make a very common core dish, why would I trust you with anything else?
So my baseline for diners of all varieties is the Mushroom Swiss burger. And my expectation level bumps up a couple notches when I see it actually on a menu. Well, let me tell you that the Black Oak Restaurant does not disappoint. It was hot and juicy. Really on point, simply, seasoned and the pickle, tomatoes and onions weren't just garnish. They were a perfect compliment of acid to cut the burger fat.
The fries were standard to good. Nothing to write home about. And that's okay, because the burger should be the shining star. Oh, and I can't forget the wait staff. Professional, friendly, and knew what that were doing. Refills-a-plenty. The waitress even gave us flawless directions to the liquor store after saying, "let me see... Is there a liquor store nearby? Hmmm... Oh, yes! Make a left, blah, blah, blah". She was great!
One final thing. Especially important to travels. Some of the window booths have an electric socket. Perfect for charging a phone. So bring your charger and ask for those tables if they're available!
Huge portions! Good food and great service! Had their sausage, biscuits and gravy. The gravy was really good! And the hash browns were perfect! Would definitely visit again.
The decoration is elegant, sentimental and connotative. The meals are very popular. One of the representatives of traditional America. I like the items very much.
Our family was traveling through the area and was happy to find the Black Oak. We were a party of 6 and were seated in a few minutes despite the restaurant being full.
We ordered biscuits and gravy, vegetable omelette, spinach omelette, and blueberry pancakes. Everything was great and the waitress brought plenty of plates for us to share the food.
The parking lot is a bit small when the place is busy.
The coffee was ok. Nothing special but nothing bad. The decor is dated styling but in great condition- it feels very homegrown.
I'd definitely come back!
So super yummy and the service, from the host, to the waitress, to the cashier were all awesome, friendly and efficient! This is one of my favorite stops when passing through the area.
amazing tasty food and very kind waitresses/ waiters.
Went there for a meal and got some biscuits and gravy, bacon, sausage, and hashbrowns and eggs over easy. All of which was stone cold. Their biscuits and gravy were actually disgusting, the biscuits undercooked and a cold chive overloaded gravy. Who puts chive in biscuits in gravy, let alone this much?
Always the best place for breakfast. And wonderful service.
