The menu online is decieving. I was looking forward to a few items but when I got to the restaurant I was bummed out. Menu consists of 5 entree items. The fried pickles were ok, the pickles were so cut so thin when you bite into them you tasted more batter than pickle. The burger with the bacon sauce was good. The fries were really good, seasoned well.
We reserved a table for two at Bistro Les Gras on a recent Saturday evening. It was a good thing we did, as the restaurant was at capacity. We had arrived early, so found two seats at the bar and ordered drinks: The Revolutionary (aged rum, young ginger, cynar and soda water) & Antica Manhattan (Basil Hayden Bourbon, Antica Vermouth and a Luxardo cherry). The bar was a lively scene itself and a great perch for a view of the happy tables. Our bartender, Zoe, was not only friendly and expert, but generous beyond expectations: when she filled my Manhattan, it was precisely to the rim, a rare sight.
Our table, on a raised platform of "high tables" by the front windows, was ready on time, and we were ushered there, a second waiter carrying our drinks to the table. My wife and I each ordered salads, followed by her entrée of "Faroe Islands salmon" and my choice of "charred octopus." Each presentation was a delight to the eyes and a triumph to the taste buds and appetites. For dessert, we relished chocolate infused custard accompanied by excellent coffee.
The service at the Bistro Les Gras was warm and gracious - and helpful without interferring in our conversation or focused feasting. The farm to table food was delicious, fresh and blessed by the Bistro's expert kitchen. The concise menu is a plus, as attention can be focused on quality and on clearly varied options (which change from time to time upon subsequent visits). This restaurant is an outstanding experience.
I tried bouillabaisse for the first time in my life, based in the waitress's recommendation. It was amazing. The flavors were the right combination of good. The food was light, yet felt filling. So, it was worth the price. Would recommend to anyone looking for good French cuisine, in a small but great place. The lighting after sunset is set to the right mood, so, great to being friends and family.
Second time here. A French feel. Limited seating. We usually sit at the bar. We usually get drinks here before hitting hot tub. I usually order an old fashion my wife gets wine. We had an asparagus appetizer and a fried oyster appetizer. Both were very good. The couple next to us had a burger that looked amazing. Looking forward to trying the burger.
After another visit still love this place. The bartender, Eric it's amazing. The drinks for me are properly prepared. I had the burger this time, well had some of it. My wife ended up finishing it because it was so good. We also split chicken over polenta. We will come here as often I we can. I do not feel like there is any place like this in Western Mass.
Lovely small restaurant, unpretentious but excellent and imaginative food plus very nice comfort food. We like quiet, so we got there at opening time, 5pm, and had a table for two by the window, perfect. Our server was knowledgeable, friendly, and helpful. I loved the beef tartare with crisp thin double toasted local bread slices, and the rye pasta and mushrooms dish. My husband loved the pea soup and especially the fantastic salmon with smooth-as-silk mashed parsnips, and radicchio with a really nice herb butter sauce. Oh, and roasted radishes - surprising and good. This was our first time here - won’t be the last.
I've been coming here for the past few years since my wife and I moved to the area. Definitely one of the best restaurants around both technically and in terms of atmosphere. There aren't many tables for the space they have so it never feels overcrowded when you're eating. In my experience the staff have been attentive and knowledgable about their seasonal menu. Their menu is another reason to eat here. It changes often which insures their use of the freshest ingredients.
Amazingly delicious food from start to finish! Now my top restaurant in Northampton. Will go again and again, looking forward to new menu options as they rotate in. Terrific service and warm, inviting atmosphere. You must try it!
Great food, great specialty cocktails! This is the type of food I cook at home using recipes from food and wine for a fraction of the price of course. It's nice to find a local restaurant that makes high quality American European fare!!
