My family and I found this place by chance. For dine in, we ordered waffles and chicken, Mike's big plate with chicken and another Mike's big plate with fried pork chops. We really loved everything. Our side dishes were Mac n cheese, collard greens, rice n gravy and mash n gravy and candied yams. The candied yams and Mac were the highlight! Our waitress was attentive and awesome. We came back later to order to go and for that one we ordered the shrimp boil, shrimp n grits and peach cobbler and chicken. I have to say the shrimp n grits were good but was missing something like chives or green onions and just a hearty seasoning. The peach cobbler tasted like it had too much lemon in it but everything else was fine! Next time on vacation we will definitely be back!!!!
The soul food was great. There were six of us. Collectively, we did not care for the fish, but the porkchops and fish and grits were on point. The sides were good and the food was hot. The Koolaid was on point, too. The place is not very big, so seating is limited for large parties. Big Mike and his employees were very friendly. There's a walk-up window and a few seats outside to enjoy your food. You can tell it's a community staple.
Looking for good home style soul food definitely come here!! I had the catfish nuggets sandwich on light bread; we also got fried chicken, chicken livers, potato salad, greens, green beans, rice and gravy. I wanted to try everything! Definitely stopping back in on my next trip!!
It's hard to find really great, authentic food in Myrtle Beach. Everything is super flashy and usually just okay, it's built to get tourists in and feed them cheap food. Big Mike's was the opposite. Super quaint little building, but some HUGE flavor inside. This place has got soul food right. The shrimp and grits were some of the best I've ever had.
We decided to visit Myrtle Beach while vacationing. I'm happy we did because it did not disappoint. Victoria was our server, and she was attentive and pleasant. Now, the food was fabulous. One of my favorites was chicken livers on the menu, and my spouse had the seafood basket. Delicious and nice size helpings. Visit Big Mike’s you will not be disappointed.
The customer service was okay. Though cooked right, the cabbage had too much black pepper and the greens bland. The fried chicken, yams, and whiting fish was cooked & seasoned perfectly! The tea is perfect as well. Sweet but not too sweet. The mac & cheese and fried okra was good. Both were cooked well but cooled down fast due to the central air. The air felt great but was too cold for dining in.
A hidden gem in the middle of MB. Big Mike's does soul food RIGHT! The service was pretty good, and the food....oh my gosh, y'all! Best shrimp n' grits I have had in all 35 years on this earth (not hyperbole, either, the shrimp were fresh and spiced just right, grits were creamy and hot)!! Get yourself some shrimp and grits and feed your soul here. Nice find!
The food was delicious. I didn’t taste one bad thing and my family of 7 would agree. The service was quick and friendly. Only thing I’d probably recommend is that they update their interior. However and honestly the place was still clean, service quick and the food was delicious. I’m going back before I leave SC.
