Sweet baby Jesus, that’s some good food! Ordered the fried chicken, Mac and cheese, collards, green beans, and broccoli and it was SO GOOD! Guys taking our order is Big Ma’s son and said he grew up eating all of this food. He recommended the Mac and cheese, collards and broccoli and I’m so glad he did. Highly recommend if you’re in the area!
The first time I tried this place, I didn’t really like the food. I forgot what had got but I didn’t like the parsley flakes on everything. But, I decided to give this place a second try and well… it was wayyyy better than the first. I don’t know who was in the kitchen today but the food was excellent! I got the smothered pork chops with rice and gravy, with a side of their green beans and potatoes, macaroni and cheese with their hoecake/flapjacks. The only thing was my pork chop was a little chewy but I know people have different ways of cooking things. But overall 8.5/10 (a high 8). I actually should’ve added another hoecake, it was so delicious!
There wasn't many people dining in when I went, but many calls for take out. Just about everyone ordered the oxtails and I just had to follow suit. Had the Oxtails over rice with candied yams, Mac n cheese, and hoecake. It was all delicious!
It was my first time in, but was welcomed as any other regular.

This is very friendly restaurant The food is excellent. We had fried chicken and Tilapia with great southern sides. Everything was very tasty. Small place but big on great food.
While in town for a basketball tournament, I decided to take my family to Big Ma's for lunch. I'm so glad I googled and found this place. If you are looking for a fancy restaurant, this is not the place. If you want some food that really feeds your soul, look no further. It was six of us, so we had a variety of food. The chicken wings, salmon, liver and onions, and turkey wings were all flavorful and perfectly cooked. The macaroni and cheese, greens, cabbag, and candied yams were also just as good. The young lady at hat sat and served our family was very attentive and a pleasure to be around. I prepare food, so I am very critical of where I eat. Big Ma's gets a 10 out of 10 in my book.
Amazing food and friendly family, southern cuisine at its finest don’t miss this jewel in Statesboro, everything makes a hard choice, the smothered hamburger and smothered pork chops simply amazing, super good fried Atlantic shrimp. Mac & cheese, and southern sweet tea it’s hard to pick out all the best flavors.
Everything good about Georgia can be found in a booth at Big Ma’s. From the smile on David’s face when you walk in, to the salty crispy smooth as silk slow cooked deep fried work all day over a hot stove and ten times better than your best food memory goodness that sits on your plate. It’s not a meal, it’s an experience. Treat the family as such and you will have the BEST time!
