Came across this little gem today and I'm happy I did. It had a very relaxed atmosphere with bits of African American history on the walls. I got me a sliced brisket sandwich with baked beans and Mac n cheese and let me just say this sandwich was STACKED with delicious tender brisket slices that was mouthwatering on its own but then it came with a side of sauce that was tangy but the perfect compliment to this sandwich. This is definitely a spot to try out if you haven't.
The reason for my experience could have been I arrived 40 minutes before closing. The food was not good to ME. The Cole slaw was dry. The ribs were stringy. Rib tips selection could have been a better ratio of meaty portions vs the small pointed piece which dries and gets tough while cooking. The sides weren’t bad but borderlines good. I usually give small businesses two chances. Perhaps I’ll go back during the weekend or lunch time. I really want them to be successful.
Absolutely wonderful barbecue brisket and pulled pork. Friendly and helpful staff. More of a take out place than eat in.
Food hot and fresh.... Right amount of food, prices was ok, not expensive.... I loved everything about this place
Had the pulled pork dinner. It's pulled pork in a mild BBQ sauce on a bun.(a lil dry) Served with 2 sides. I had the collard greens and grilled cabbage. The cabbage had a subtle smokey flavor. Overall a good dining experience. For the dinner and a 16.9 oz soda $15.78. Seating for about 20 people.
Stopped here for lunch and it was really good! The food was excellent quality and very well priced. This place is very small so it isn't the best dine in experience but the food is worth it. The service was very friendly as well. I highly recommend this place.
I had always wanted to try Big Ben's and I'm glad I finally did. When I first walked in I was met with a warm welcome and a very down to earth bunch. You can totally tell this is a family run restaurant. The menu was simple enough to understand and not overflowing with too many options. We settled on the Bear's Bear option and it came with plenty to feed 4-5 of us. I loved reading the history that is all over the walls while we waited, which wasn't long, and learned a few things along the way. Now I am actually pretty picky when it comes to greens and eating them anywhere but at my family gatherings as I do not like any type of canned greens and usually thats what I'm presented with when I dare to order them from a restaurant. I chose to dare this day, however, because the gentleman behind the counter response when asked if they were fresh or canned was how I had almost given him a heart attack at the idea that they would even think to use canned and utter shock at the audacity to even need to ask. So I was sold and man was I not disappointed. These greens were some of the best I have ever had, almost better than my father's! They were cleaned properly, seasoned and cooked beautifully and the taste was the product of someone who knows what they are doing. I did not get any sand or mush just nice hearty leaf after leaf. I will definitely be back for more. We also had rib and rib tips which were both cooked properly and had a nice solid smoke mark present in every piece. They still were capable of staying on the bone yet we weren't playing tug a war trying to get a bite. We were given plenty of BBQ sauce on the side which meant we go as light or heavy as we wanted. The potato salad was Good and had that homemade type of look and taste to them that just took me back to those family gatherings I went to as a kid. I snapped a picture of my plate after I finished most of my greens because I never intended to write a review but I wanted to have proof that I actually ate and enjoyed greens from a restaurant cause my family knows I do not play around when it comes to the quality a thing of greens has to have to make it on and off my plate
ABSOLUTLEY amazing!!! The owner is great, and I felt like i was at home. Food was hot and fresh and so flavorful! I will definitley be back. The fried catfish was to die for!
