Best WLM Reviews

We took the Streetcar up Canal to Dorgenois Street, just to go to Betsy’s for breakfast. We were not disappointed. The atmosphere is like an old-school dinner, nothing fancy just fun and homey. The breakfast is basic, eggs, bacon, grits with toast or pancakes. The portions are very large and the cost is super reasonable. A great experience and we will be back.
This was a very disappointing experience, the place was packed so I just knew it was going to be phenomenal. Waiting at least ten minutes, before being greeted. I asked for eggs scumble lite, now any real cook knows you can't scumble lite eggs with fake eggs. All just went downhill from there. The guy next to me was also his first time in. Look at his wonderful plate with fresh eggs he had a great experience, wish I could say the same.
I ordered on Uber eats, so this review is not from inside the restaurant itself.
However, it IS about the food.
I ordered enough so I would have breakfast and something to eat for dinner. Mistake.
Biscuits and gravy - my biscuits definitely tasted like it had been left out overnight and was so dried out my gravy would not even absorb. I don’t throw food away, but that definitely went in the trash. It was more like a thin scone or something.
Chicken fried steak with scrambled eggs and grits -
I don’t know what kind of meat was in the chicken fried steak because it was gray. I still managed to eat about a quarter of it before giving up. Eggs and grits were fine after salt and butter.
English muffin – it was burnt and also soggy. Not even sure how you accomplish that. Also seems like it is wheat and tasted very chemically. I didn’t even swallow the bite I took.
Corned beef hash –
I love corned beef hash. Now, this did taste like corn beef hash. Which is fine, I ate it. The problem here was I probably got 4 ounces for $7.50. Since I ordered it as a side, I expected them to at least fill up a portion of the side square foam containers. Just look at the picture. Unfortunately, this is what I opened first and immediately went to Uber eats to report it and get my money back. After opening all the other items, I should’ve got a refund for the full meal. Absolutely terrible.
I normally would not write a review, unless it’s really bad, because I know some restaurants have bad days, but Jesus Christ! This is an absolute no for me.
This seems like the place where everyone knows the customers name's. No they really do, regulars walking in and waitresses already know what they want. The staff were nice and even the customers. Breakfast was cheap and good. I got exactly what I paid for.
Food was great! Best grits I've had in New Orleans. Service was impeccable and the atmosphere was welcoming and so comfortable. This will be my new daily spot.
UPDATE: A month ago I went there to eat, but I felt faint. Melissa, one of their best servers, drove me to the hospital because the fire dept showed up and Said it was going to be an hour before EMS can arrive. If Melissa wouldn't have taken me, I wouldn't be alive. It ended up that they had to remove 16 feet of intestine because of a blood clot my intestines were dead. Her empathy and compassion truly saved my life. Not only is Betsy the best family restaurant in the city, but the people who work there truly care and show compassion. Thank you again Melissa. I ended up having 5 major surgeries and I'm still in the hospital for awhile due to needing IV antibiotics. I've been in a month as of yesterday but I'm just so grateful to God for my angel Melissa.
We waited an hour before we got drinks. Then, we waited an additional 45 minutes after we ordered, just to be told they were out of some things we ordered. When we finally received our food, half of it was cold. The waitress rarely checked on us or offered any insight or relief as to the long wait. We will never return.
I was at the VA hospital and had a lag between appointments around lunch time. I opened Google Maps to find a restaurant near the location and spotted Betsy’s Pancake House nearby and decided to try it. I was absolutely pleased with my dish of spaghetti and meatballs. My dad had the red beans with ham hock that was so tender he could cut it with a fork. The portions are more than adequate and the price is exceptional.
I’ll have to go back again and try some breakfast ???? ????!
Breakfast was ok, the waitress was more enjoyable. I had the country fried steak with hash browns and scrambled eggs scrambled hard with a side of pancakes and hot sausage. The scrambled hard eggs were runny, and the hot sausage was more like cereal than meat. But the saving grace was the service, pancakes (great), and the hash browns spot on. My wife had the grits, sausage links, and scrambled eggs. She enjoyed all.
