Best WLM Reviews
It’s quite a popular spot in the GW food court at the corner. But Feels a little chaotic ordering; long lines and long waits. They call your number to get the food, but sometimes the wait is so long I question if I missed my number.
Here’s what we ordered -
- ???? Crispy duck: the outer skin is thin and crispy, in between the layer of skin and duck meat, there’s a middle layer of fat which makes it quite juicy and well balanced of a dish overall. It’s slightly saltier than expected but I enjoyed this dish a lot overall.
- ???? Roast duck: the roasted duck is pretty good as well. You can taste the bbq flavor, and the duck is very tender. However, I think I would prefer the crispy duck over this one.
- ???? Salted egg yolk spare ribs: these are very delicious. There’s actual chunks of salted egg yolk, and the ribs are coated evenly with that salted egg yolk flavor. Would recommend getting this dish!
- ???? Various fried rice: fried rice is okay. I think it lacks salt and pepper seasoning, and the rice texture is just okay.
If you're looking for the "best bang for your buck" dimsum then this is the place (most shrimp-filling dimsum were full of shrimps which is why I like this place). My favorite ones that I always order here are their shrimp fried balls (#1 favorite), shrimp rice rolls and shrimp har gow. The pork fillings for shumai is leaning more toward on the fattier side but it's not too fatty. We didn't really like the xiao long bao because the skin was thick (and it was a little hard on top) and there wasn't much soup inside. Radish cake was just ok. The place is located inside the Great Wall Supermarket and usually there is a long line of customers when I go. Wait time is pretty quick (around 10-15mins) each time and it's a self-serve style.
The food is great and in large portions. You need to have a little luck finding a place to sit, and the tables are cleaned by the customers hopefully. But worth it, there's a picture menu you can point at if you feel you need help offering.
Not sure why the reviews are so poor. I enjoyed the dim sum here. Food was fresh and good portions. It’s inside the grocery store so the atmosphere isn’t great. Very good chili oil. Spicier than usual
I drive out of the way during my limited lunch break to get the shumai and/or minced beef congee bc they're *that* good. The shumai pieces are huge, juicy and filling. Honestly, one order of that is enough of a lunch order for me. The minced beef congee (rice porridge, if you're unfamiliar) is *so* good! Definitely a comfort food, especially when you're feeling sick. My first time ordering that, I was expecting ground beef and didn't think it would be anything special. But I was so glad to be wrong bc the meat they use is some chunky cuts of beef minced to tender texture and adds such a nice flavor to the congee, which has the perfect congee consistency, imo. The portion is pretty big, which I appreciate.
I used to order the crispy roast pork, BBQ (cha siu) pork and roast duck for various friends and family, but, based on the last couple of visits, they don't taste as good as they used to before. Maybe they were having some off days, idk, but I'm happy enough to order the congee and shumai. I also recommend the fried shrimp balls and dry beef chow fun.
As far as service goes, I'm used to the straightforward/blunt demeanor of the workers at these businesses so I'm not bothered. It can get chaotic during lunch and dinner time so just plan accordingly and be patient. Bring cash if you can, bc there is a transaction fee when paid with cards.
Pro tip: when ordering to-go, always check your order before you leave ;)
We bought 2 live Dungeness crabs & 1 live lobster from GW Supermarket, then asked Best BBQ to cook them for us - Hong Kong style for crabs, and ginger & scallion for lobster. OMG unbelievable fresh tasty seafood. Beef chow fun a classic. Salt & pepper tofu is fun finger food.
Very good food at very affordable price.
Get the rice combo with three meat, that would be the best value.
Service wise the place sucks. No smile, no how you doing, not even a thank you. But come on guys, this is a food court in a Chinese market. They aren't a fancy restaurant and they didn't attempt to advertise themselves as such.
Get the cheap, but good food and move on.
Highly recommended
This is the must visit place every time I visit Atlanta. They offer a large variety of authentic Cantonese dishes. From cook to order dim sum, BBQ and hot dishes, never disappointing. The only thing id they located in a busy self service supermarket food court. But their food quality compensated all the environment short coming.
