Best WLM Reviews

Some businesses go under for a very good reason. With that being said, this one should have stayed that way. Buried and no room for resurrection!
I will start by saying that they lack organization on what a soft launch is vs opening. They are terrible at communicating to clients on the status of the restaurant. You never know if it’s opened or closed. Even the Google maps is inaccurate on business hours. How do you all expect to make money??? Which tells me that this is being run terribly! A simple look at their social media tells you everything you need to know and the fact that the restaurant is mostly empty. I will be surprised if this place lasts more than a year. Now on to the food:
The jerk chicken is NOT Jamaican jerk. The outside of the chicken is smoky and the inside lacks seasoning. The rice and peas were not terrible but had so many diced onions in it. Jamaican rice and peas is cooked with scallions and then removed. Even so, say you ran out of scallions and used onions….they should be removed! Instead this place dices them up and leave them in it to fill the space as more food. Now the rice and peas taste like onion rice. SMH! Now, usually a meal like this is served with plantains but instead they used collard greens to appeal to Americans. It was the worst collard greens I have ever tasted. The wings were regular grilled wings and had 0 taste of jerk seasoning. Overall I WOULD NOT recommend this place. The food is NOT authentic and way overpriced for what you get. Find Jamaican cooks because it’s obvious that you all do not know how to cook authentic Jamaican food. Also how can you have a Caribbean restaurant and No plantains? Make it make sense please!!!!!
P.S Beware that they will not tell you that they already included a %20 service charge in the bill! So unscrupulous. Anyways, I would rather go to Cane or St James. Peter you should know better.
Update 2024:
I had high hopes for this place reopening but I was swiftly disappointed. This place has been handed over to a new management and I can confidently say it is even now worse! Shaky tables, food that isn’t jerk seasoned, terrible rice and peas, no plantains, opening times not updated, poor roll out of restaurant communication, etc etc etc Simply put, the food was not great and definitely not for the price you pay. Go anywhere else but here. From a 2 star past to now a 1 star.
Past Ownership review:
Ambiance is decent. Food is not authentic. For stew chicken they just added jerk chicken to some water down sauce. They think that people will not know the difference. The festivals are very small for the price. The fish was decent though. The jerk chicken was tender and nice. Overall, I would not recommend this place. Lastly the manager on duty, the guy with the long hair in a bun is condescending and o really rude he was not very accommodating to our group.
I had the most amazing meal here! The brown stew chicken was some of the best I have ever had. We also ordered the red snapper and jerk chicken. We sat out on the deck, the weather was great and so was the service. On my next trip back I definitely will be coming back and also recommending it to anyone I may know who is traveling.
Wow, I was skeptical at first, but as I’m eating the leftovers from yesterday, I just had to stop by and share my experience.
For starters, I had never tried curry beef before, and it blew my mind. I added sweet plantains, and they were delicious. I’m so glad I got past my hesitation and walked in. Once I sat down, the service was spectacular, and the music was perfect.
It was exactly the moment I needed to relax.
PLUS, I LOVE GOOD FOOD.
Overall, the vibes were nice at the restaurant. However, I felt that this wasn't authentic or good Caribbean food. I started off with eating salt fish critters which were delicious. In regards to my entree, my rice was over cooked and the jerk chicken is not the same jerk chicken that you get at a traditional Caribbean restaurant. The chicken was more of a dry rub with a super spicy jerk sauce that they included to pour on the chicken.
When I poured the sauce over the chicken, it was so spicy that it was unbearable to eat. Typically, the chicken is supposed to already be cooked with the jerk seasonings and sauce.
I must say that the restaurant is located in a beautiful dock area, with beautiful views of the waterfront. Nice views, but I wasn't too pleased with their food.
The food is simply outstanding. I tried the Saltfish Fritters, Pork Belly, Beef Curry, Festival and Plantains. Each dish was distinctive, well portioned and a definite recommend. The one knock was the service. My waiter disappeared as my wife and I wrapped up and I sat there for well over 10 minutes until I finally had to ask someone else for assistance getting my boxes and the check.
Wow, nothing like Jamaican food on a Sunday. I hope the photo will show what I describe as phenomenal tasting food. Started off with Chicken wings, conch fritters, and pimento chicken, allow me to tell you this was some good food to start with. For the main course I hate curry goat, absolutely phenomenal as well. For dessert I had the banana ice cream on rum cake, too good. Shawn was our server, top notch, highly recommended gentleman. This place was the bomb, if you want Jamaican cuisine this is the place to go while you’re in the Navy yard area.
If you are looking for a different kind of meal in navy then this is the restaurant for you. Huge portion sizes too and taste fresh. The food has some spice but it's not too overpowering so if you like it hot hot ask for it. Also the drinks looked awesome and is a great spot for a date night. Also the doubles were a great app and the chickpeas were amazing.
