Driving down US-20 and needed lunch. Just called when about 20 minutes away to place a carry out order. Great prices, hot food and friendly service. We picked it up and ate in the car. So much better than the typical fast food we settle for on a road trip! I recommend the sweet potato fries with ranch for your side.
The service was pretty good, but my biggest problem was they cooked the pizza in paper and it was stuck to it. The only reason food isn't at 1 star is because the wings were alright but kinda overcooked. They waitress was nice and sincere abt the paper. We've been here before and it was better I think they fell off.
Typical small town bar and grill. Good food, friendly staff. Our waitress was going none stop the whole time we where there but kept our glasses full. Pizza was above average. I wasn't a fan of the crust but both the flavor of the Crab ragoon and the BBQ brisket with cream cheese (yes pizza) was really good. Wife had the Ruben and said it was good as well. Although I wouldn't drive 2 hours to eat here, if you're close I'ld definitely recommend it.
First time visiting from Des Moines, this dive-bar type restaurant came highly recommended by my date who's from the area. She hyped up the BBQ Beef Brisket pizza. We shared a Large and split it half BBQ Beef Brisket & half Buffalo Chicken.
The BBQ Beef Brisket half, the cheese was burnt and made the crust too crunchy & burnt. The cream cheese in my opinion should be mixed within the pizza sauce and not used as globs of cream cheese. I didn't like biting straight into a cream cheese blob. The BBQ Beef Brisket was dry and required additional BBQ sauce.
The Buffalo Chicken half tasted dry & burnt too. The Buffalo Chicken wasn't that hot and I've had better. Atmosphere seemed pleasant for an older crowd and service was good. Service was good although we were forgotten about at times as patrons closest to the bar were serviced often.
I also ordered an appetizer of Beef Nachos and sadly I can make better Beef Nachos at home. I expected canned nacho cheese bc its profit margins are minimal, but I received way more chips than beef & nacho cheese. For $8 on nachos, that's a rip-off ! Too many chips, hardly any beef, and obvious canned nacho cheese, c'mon. Let's not make it TOO obvious its canned nacho cheese. I'm willing to try Backdraft again in the future as there's not many restaurants in the Correctionville-Holstein-Cherokee area and I love trying local places than travel to Sioux City for national brands. I hope my next visit the pizza will be much better!
A few times a year I go to backdraft just to get their BBQ brisket and cream cheese pizza. That is how I have always ordered it. My drive is over an hour one way. When I picked my pizza tonight started back home and decided I wanted a piece. I took a couple of bites and something wasnt right. Who ever made the pizza put BBQ sauce over it instead of the glaze. What a disappointment. I ended up giving it to my neighbors. So much for craving for pizza????
Best small town food I've had. Probably not much competition so they didn't have to make pizza and sandwiches this good, but they did anyway. Service is fast and friendly, and the prices are wildly low compared to city rates. Absolutely worth a stop if you're in the area.
French fries are hot, crinkle cut, inexpensive, and flavorful. Very few people at bar and as I was looking at the drinks I was ignored. I ordered a water to begin with, but changed my mind. I didn't get a drink because I was not asked again. Good dive bar atmosphere, but scarce of people when I was there early in evening on a Sunday.
Small town bar / restaurant atmosphere where you feel welcomed. Pizza is fantastic, been here a few times and always say going to try something else but the pizza is great. Want to try the wings sometime. Thursdays is buy 10 wings and get 10 free. Had people tell me they are very good and meaty. Lots of sauces to try. Need to go more often, worth the drive.
