Beware: if you use a credit card they charge you twice for a "credit card fee" on the same bill. You have to ask to see the itemized receipt before paying, otherwise they scam you. When we were there i saw the same waitress do this 3 times back to back, get called out by each person, then proceed to do it again to the next person... so you know it's not happening on accident.
stopped in for some food but we didnt make it past the chips and salsa. Poor service was the main reason why we decided to not stay for a meal. it was pretty empty in there as well so we were confused as to why it was so off. Drinks were average and guacamole was pretty good.
My first mistake was expecting to find good Mexican food in the small town of Galena Illinois. I already knew to not expect anything good here so we just ordered chips, salsa, and guacamole. The guacamole was actually good but the salsa had no taste like if they didn’t season it. Someone in our party got a frozen margarita and it tasted like a slushy. There was no way there was a single drop of tequila in that drink. It was incredibly over priced. I think our bill came to about $80 and that’s all we got. We ended up going to Dirty Gurt’s next door afterward.
Came to Galena for the first time with friends. We stopped in for drinks and a light appetizer. Restaurant had not been cleaned for a while. Every corner had storage of some sort. Service was slow. Chips were horrible. Our drinks were like colored snow cones with no flavor or alcohol. We tipped the server well since she was doing her best. We are not returning customers. Owners please read your reviews and make necessary changes.
PRICES ARE SKY HIGH! Awful food they probably bought from the local gas station. Example: They sell ramen noodles (usually $1.25/pack at the store) that cost almost $10. Horrible service with a frown. Watered down drinks. DO NOT COME HERE!! I’ll be surprised if they’re still open in a year. We didn’t have cell service (this town is like that) so we couldn’t check the reviews. Had we did, we wouldn’t have eaten here.
Edit: After 2 months of this review being live I expected the owners to respond, even if it was a ‘canned” response. Sadly they did not.
If you are reading this and trying to decide if you want to eat here, just don’t. Move on and go to any of the many great places nearby. So the food was mixed. My Taco Salad was 95% old iceberg lettuce sprinkled with some ground beef and was horrible. The tacos were decent but not worth the $$$$. Now let’s talk about the service, we were the only customers when we walked in, our waiter had to be stoned out of his mind. Placing our initial order for drinks was difficult enough. We had to repeat our order multiple times and the waiter checked back with us over and over to confirm the order. Our waiter dropped our entire order of food on the floor and it had to be remade. So we get the bill, 5 lines were not ours, after it was fixed, 4 adults and 3 kids, the total was $162!!!! Never have I paid so much for so little. Shame on us for not walking away when we had the chance.
This can barely be called food. I got charged $17 for these tacos with one slice of avocado. Highway robbery. Everyone in our party agreed the food was disgusting. Eat literally anywhere else. If you enjoy this place there’s something seriously wrong with you. Gross.
Possibly the worst Mexican Food I’ve ever eaten. Insanely overpriced and everything appeared out of a can. Save your time and go somewhere else in Galena.
