This has been a Classic Staple Breakfast Restaurant in Capitola for years. The fresh ingredients and talented cooking staff is reliable and consistent. The Vibe is a little "Greasy Spoon" but quaint and functional for a small and popular cafe. If they put a little investment into the ambiance both inside and outside patio area, they could step up business quickly in this highly tourist favorite town.
Cozy breakfast dinner with classic dishes. Reasonable prices. Ordered the Eggs Benedict with Avocado and Bacon ($15.99). Highly recommend. Would recommend for small groups. There is limited seating (7-8 tables).
Food is kinda nice, not salty. Portion way too small to be “American” style. Expect more ingredients.
I've never been disappointed with any aspect of the Avenue Cafe. The food is terrific. It's always fresh. Their Chicken Fried Steak is a work of art, and even better if you order a side salad with Balsamic dressing. The gravy on the steak has a sublime unique taste and texture. Also, the Eggs Benedict are the best I've had in Santa Cruz. Don't let appearances fool you. It might look a bit funky, but the staff are friendly and courteous. Give it a try - I guarantee you'll come back for more.
Great Cafe with perfect portions, quick eats, cozy atmosphere. Odd days closed, but definitely a must try. Capitola Chaos is awesome!(when I'm not going with French toast)
Avenue Cafe, at 427 Capitola Ave. in the Capitola village, is a delightful, gleaming restaurant set in a 100-year-old house. It's located about two blocks from the Capitola Beach.
The owner keeps Avenue Cafe spotless, and the shiny yellow walls and charming paned windows give a cheery, inviting appearance. Credit cards are accepted; there is no outdoor seating.
Luci N. & I arrived before 9am on a Sunday morning, and before long the little cafe was nearly full. We enjoyed a small bowl of surprisingly appealing fruit, freshly cut, compliments of the owner.
We ordered the smoked salmon avocado & eggs benedict ($15), poached eggs on English muffin, with smoked salmon, avocado, Hollandaise sauce. Standard ingredients and assembly, perfectly executed.
I'd recommend the Avenue Cafe to anyone interested in a breakfast/brunch spot while in Capitola, and while you're at it, take a walk around and check out the village!
If you want good food, good service, good homely ambiance in a small cozy setting - this is the place. To top it off - the smile on the two ladies is infectious - you know that they enjoy what they are doing!
I cleaned up my plate - not a morsel wasted - and I took a picture to prove it! The French Toast and eggs - cooked to perfection - again I took a picture as proof. The cozy setting - another picture...

Came here with my family on a Thursday for brunch and we got outdoor seating right away! We ended up getting the smoked salmon Benedict and I personally really loved the fresh taste of the salmon! The sauce and the avocado also added to the nice taste of the dish, and the hash browns were decent but a little on the less crunchy side. The portion sizes were small but good for one person to be satisfied. The service was a little slow and we didn’t get some things unless we asked twice.
