Wow, what a win! Ended up at Avalanche Pizza on a whim and it was fantastic.
Vegan pizza is usually hit or miss for me and I was so so happy at how tasty this was!
I did a BYO with vegan cheese, onions, and jalapenos. The staff was so friendly and the picnic tables outside were perfect.
My only suggestion would be to carry a vegan ranch - that would do great for dairy allergies/vegans!

The pizza here is so good! We were in town for a roller derby game and this place was suggested to us. We got the death by pickle and the cheese bread and both were amazing.
We got the bbq chicken, the mt Olympus Greek and the super mushroom pizza and an order of the jalapeño poppers. Everything tasted amazing and was super fresh! We will definitely order again next time we’re in Athens!
Overall a pretty solid pizza place. All of our food was hot & prepared on time.
The jalapeno poppers were probably the best thing we got. They were really delicious and had a good balance of bread to filling.
The Southeast Engine Delight was a surprise. It was much better than anticipated! It was really flavorful and well seasoned. I love the whole roasted garlic cloves, though I do feel like the potatoes might have been better if they were cut a little smaller. But overall, we were really happy with this one!
While we were most excited about the Super Mushroom, this was actually the biggest disappointment for us. Seeing other pictures from reviews, I was looking forward to a pizza coated edge-to-edge in mushrooms. But that wasn't the case. The most unfortunate part was how bland and unseasoned this pizza was. For as much as it has going on, and how good the other items were - this pizza tasted like absolutely nothing at all.
I would still be interested in going back sometime & trying some of their other options though!
I’ve been going to Avalanche Pizza for 14 years and they absolutely the best pizza I’ve ever had. I don’t live in Athens anymore, but anytime I come back to visit I have to get a pizza from Avalanche. The basil pesto and jalapeño dipping sauces are also fantastic. Anytime pizza comes up in conversation I talk about Avalanche and how much I miss being able to order from there anytime. Glad to see that they are still going strong and surprised (but pleased) they opened up the Slice House.
I don't have a picture of the food because of the teens that devoured it. However, it was done before the time listed. The food was really good. What seemed to be homemade sauces was excellent. The garlic jalapeño sauce is really good if you like spicy things! For me, it was excellent! Lightly toasted is great! Will stop again when wanting pizza and in the athens area.
The pizza was very good. We go to Athens several times a year to visit our daughter for a few days at a time and always try to order avalanche once.
It was hot, custom items were all correct, phone operator was very polite and they delivered to our hotel with no issues.
I do not live in Athens but visit frequently and have ordered large carryout orders from Avalanche twice now, and both times everything was ready on time and as promised.
The pizza is solid, especially for Athens- if you want to try a local option for pizza it's a great choice. The specialties are interesting: I loved the hawaiian and the Supreme was a hit, although we tried the Godzilla and it got mixed reviews- it was a little polarizing but it is an unusual combo. Overall, my biggest complaint is that on our last order the pizzas could have been a little crisper (although I noticed a well done option when ordering online so I'll try that in the future.
