Chris and his team are now my guys! I was recommended by two people and was reluctant to try yet another car place. I expressed my inability to find an honest, thorough mechanic that charged a reasonable price. I have to say that Chris was very patient and kind, answered all my questions and charged me a fair price. I will keep going back to have my Honda cared for by this team.
My experience with Autotech has been over the past 5 months. I have gone in to see them for an engine light on 3 different occassions and after paying such a high price of close to $3,000... and my engine light remained on and each time was given different codes (or same codes again) that were causing this and still my engine light is on and prevented me from getting my inspection. . I had to take it to another mechanic last week and after one time and less than $250... it was diagnosed and engine light has remained off and was able to get my car inspected. The owner was NOT approachable and each time I asked to speak to him or ask him to come out and meet with me and explain.. he hid behind the glass window separating him from the front office and kept telling me when I was getting more and more upset after paying all my money with NO results. While it could have been good reason for each time that the engine light reappeared with the SAME codes and no help with his 2 year warranty he did NOT take ownership that he could NOT diagnose my problem and it took my calling another mechanic and getting NO refund for work done with NO results that I got someone else to do it and fix my car finally! Owner needs to work on his customer service and dealing with people who are paying lots of money and counting on him to diagnose and repair their vehicle and I would NOT recommend using them on my 2013 jeep ever again. Also noted.. as others have stated and I should have paid closer attention; his prices are higher than any other in the area as evidenced by my new mechanic who fixed my vehicle and charged me so little.
Needed a rear wheel bearing replaced.
The car dealership quoted us $500 but schedule would two weeks. Took the vehicle to auto tech the quote was little higher than the dealership but needed the vehicle. The final bill was $650 higher than the quote. Sent the transcript of the quote to Chris the owner no resolution. Charged for parts that come with the kit. Should have waited to have it done at the dealership.
Have used a few times to do services I either could not troubleshoot, handle or have time to do myself. Honest, fair and correct diagnosis. Make appropriate recommendations the first time with fair prices. Would recommend and use again without hesitation.
They are not going to be the cheapest place to get work done but they are very thorough and comprehensive. I had heard good things and now have had them service two vehicles and they live up to thier reputation. I appreciated the communication and feel like they will be up front and I intend to return if needed in the future
Student discounts, honest work, far better pricing than AAA, Firestone and dealer (Timing Belt on daughter's car cost $200 less than the aforementioned places). Daughter went off to college at UNCW. I usually do most repairs myself but the distance was an issue. Glad we found a Honda specialist! When we replaced the Civic with a Nissan Cube, Auto Tech proved to be THE place again! Nissan wanted $450 to replace the valve gasket because you have to remove the intake manifold to get to it. Auto Tech did put for under $200. I've trusted my daughter's car her all throughout college. No up charges and honest repairs done right the first time! Thanks Chris and team!
12/4/2020 Update
Chis is amazing! We had a recent issue with head gasket failure. Essentially the previous work performed by Auto Tech was flawless but the part failed. The problem is my daughter graduated UNCW and is now living in Charlotte, 200 miles away! What a quandary! Chris went above and beyond by contacting the NAPA supplier and through his network membership with NAPA, offered a remote NAPA warranty solution where a shop here in Charlotte was paid to perform the work. Kudos to NAPA for standing behind their product and special thanks to Chris for standing behind his commitment to customers, even though we are 200 miles apart! This is customer service and integrity at its best! I feel any other shop would not have gone the extra mile to make things right! Christmas came early for my daughter this years and "Chris" played the role of Santa "Chris" Kringle!
I love my old ‘05 Lexus… Pearl…she’s a classy lady who has a few miles (216k) and a few “quirks” but I’m determined to keep her on the road as long as she’s able…and Chris and his team are the reason I can do that. Their honest assessments and quality repairs keep both Pearl and I safe on the road and happily together!
I won’t go anywhere else!
I have been going to Auto tech(Honda Specialist) for a long time and never started having any red flags go up until about three years ago. The owner(Chris) was always friendly until you question him about some work they have done on your car. That’s when I saw a different side of him. I ran across one of his previous mechanics and told him what happen to me at Auto Tech and the mechanic told me that Chris(owner) is never going to take the hit. This means when he doesn’t really fix your car, he will not even try to fix his mistake not unless you put up more money. He will argue with you, try to make excuses, try to talk over your head, and give you run around answers. I know for a fact this because he did this to me and I was shocked that after all the years I have been taken my car to him, this is how he treats loyal customers. After telling others what I experienced lately at Auto Tech, people started telling me others stories with what their friends have experienced with owner(Chris) and the dirty things he has done to them.
Auto Tech is very OVERPRICED compared to most car service places. The owner(Chris) has become very greedy, and dishonest person. Do be fooled by the bible verses in his office. That’s all a front to make you think he is a Christian. For the ones that think Auto Tech is good, the next time Auto Tech wants to do repair work on your car, go get a second opinion. Where ever you take it to get a second opinion, I bet they will be much cheaper and it would not surprise me if they tell you something different with what’s wrong with your vehicle.
