Best WLM Reviews

I was excited to check out this place’s reopening but it wasn’t really all that. A very mid or average diner in Dinkytown on the U of M campus. Their malts didn’t really taste like they had any malt powder in them but the price of 10$ was really reasonable as they easily gave u enough for 2 or even 3 people in just one malt. The food is pretty expensive though and doesn’t come with fries, fry baskets are separate and are pretty pricey. The fries were pretty crispy though so I thought they hit the mark on that :) I love chicken tenders though so I was excited to try theirs- but they were WAY too salty. I mean just COATED in salt. I couldn’t even eat them because of so much salt. The menu was pretty small too, only like a handful of diner options (basically JUST burgers, fries, or chicken tenders). Our waitress seemed nice but she did leave at once point and we could never track her down. Super busy packed place and super loud also. I probably wouldn’t go back again but not the worst experience. I just hope they take some suggestions and continue to improve…
While the nostalgia factor is strong at Annie's, the rest of the dining experience could use a little help.
I think college students come in and get one thing, but the pricing does not reflect someone ordering a meal with a milkshake and fries. The $10 shake threw me off - never have I ever paid that much for a shake and I love ice cream. It was okay, but you can see the tubs of Kemps ice cream and know for a fact it's not some specialty shake. The burger and fries were standard diner fare.
It’s so great to see this place back up and running. The sign board adds so much character to Dinkytown.
Tried the fries, blueberry and coffee malts.
Half portion of fries were more than enough for 3 people. The malts were amazing. The consistency was like ice cream. Again, very large portion size. They give you about 2 and a half times the quantity of the glass in the picture for 1 malt order.
I believe they are still trying a small menu, but in the future, I would love for them to have some vegetarian and vegan foods (maybe a grilled cheese or veggie burger) which is why I am giving 4 starts for the food.
Edit: They have impossible patties, but you have to ask them specifically for it. It is not on the menu.
The staff are lovely! I had a shake and a basket of fries. Kinda wished they had a more classic take on a shake, with the simple addition of whipped cream and a cherry on top. Nitpicky, I know. I would like to see more options on the menu in the future, or maybe improving upon what they already have. My friend did not necessarily love her chicken tenders, which is why I deducted a star. I love the venue and I am so happy to see it reopen, but I think I will wait a little while to return so some of the kinks that come with a reopen can be worked out. I think this could easily become a staple of UMN again in time.
AMAZING MALTS! This place is absolutely 5 stars worthy! It has a very cozy atmosphere and outdoor balcony seating when the weather is nice. The staff here are very very friendly and welcoming!!! I would highly recommend trying their malts!!! They have so many different flavor options and the amount of malt they give you is hugee!! I would definitely recommend splitting a malt order and sharing with someone!!! I had their chicken tenders and BBQ sauce and it was honestly some of the best chicken tenders I have had. They weren’t very fancy or anything they were just hot and good!!! Their fries are also very good! Be warned a “half order” of fries is plenty for the whole table!!! Overall I was very surprised by how nice the staff were and how quickly our food came out! Overall great food and great service!!!????
Great spot, amazing malts, you get a big amount too. So excited they opened back up, I used to come here and had to visit again. Wish they had more vegetarian options, they do have a veggie burger but I wish they had an impossible or different option as well. Great onion rings and fries. Will come back.
We had high expectations for our visit based on some word of mouth recommendations. Our visit to the area (from Chicagoland) was for a football tournament so we brought about 15 players and several parents. Instead of letting families place individual orders (for the ease of payment), we were told to wait until the entire team arrived. The "manager" assigned ONE server to take at keast TWENTY FIVE orders. There was help for drink and food delivery, but the placing of order from arrival to final order was literally almost an hour! Imagine having a group of 15 tween boys not only waiting to place orders, but then of course the food. So on several instances the boys tried to occupy their time on the patio. This was not allowed (which is totally understandable) and the "manager" spent plenty of time telling them that. (But still, not actually helping the ONE server taking 25 orders). Our time spent was an additional half hour because that same individual server had to go ORDER BY ORDER to match with the paying adult. Again, this was an opportunity to have support in splitting the Bulls since they made the decision NOT to just allow each family to place their own orders from the start. Our food was fine, shakes are just overpriced novelties offered here. But DO NOT BRING A LARGE GROUP HERE. They can't handle it. They don't actually have a system and will make you feel unwelcome as a group. I did explain this to another gentleman as we left, but I'm unsure of his role. We (parents) were very apologetic to the serving staff and grateful of those running food. I just wish the leadership team did a better job of organizing and supporting their staff during our visit.
Attempted to eat here on a Thursday evening. We waited for 25 minutes; nobody took our order. Place was moderately busy and there seemed to be an adequate number of servers. Disappointing, but maybe for the best as everything on the menu was overpriced anyway. Not recommended.
