Have a 03 hummer h2 that is lifted with 39.5 “ tires truck drove for 5 years after purchase and changed gearing do to heat in trans trans finally went out after another summer so had Al’s rebuild asked for larger bands and build as strong as possible. Transmission that was rebuilt at Al’s lasted 200 miles for some reason changed radiator to better aluminum one paid for parts to have Al rebuild that transmission lasted 2000 miles and again will not go . This time he said he is not going to touch it because my tires are to big and that was it !! He might be good at every day vehicles but not 4x4 with modifications or a situation that requires heavy duty application purposes! Nice guy . Timing was ok . But the quality of work just don’t add up .
My son dropped off his Transmission there. Got the transmission rebuilt for about half the price that everybody else was quoting and done quick, very happy.

Al's trans and gear is a small shop, he is VERY knowledgeable about transmissions and how they work. Al comes across very confidently in what he knows, and I will admit he does specialize in GM transmissions, I am not sure about other brands. A few years ago, my transmission on my 87 Firebird went out, 5 years earlier I personally attempted a shift kit, and it did not work out like I wanted. I called around to different trans shops, and told them what I wanted, how I wanted the car to shift, at what RPM etc... The first shop said they did not do shift kits, the second shop said pick a kit out and they would install it. I called Al, and he said, "sure, no problem," I asked him what kit he was going to use and he simply replied, "I make my own" and he got the job. His price was better than the other places I got quotes on and I got exactly what I wanted. I recommend him to everyone that needs trans service or repair. I have gone back time and time again, only to be pleased with his work.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED - Had a Rear differential put together, dropped off Friday afternoon and picked up Saturday morning. Fast turnaround and good pricing.
My boos had called and asked about getting a transmission part placed in the trans on the work van, employee on the phone siad they'll get it done. Couple days after, I Towed the Transit van up to have a transmission part placed in but the employee stated they don't work on vans
