Beef Sandwich was too wet, But I enjoyed it. Service went well also.
The food was fantastic I WILL eat there again. Atmosphere was good. Nothing fancy room to stretch out. Wasn't horribly crowded.
Next to the Chicago style pizza and hot dog, the next most iconic food item in town would have to be the Italian beef sandwich and no place serves up the iconic dish better than Al's.
Savory, filling, and most importantly, extremely messy, it's the classic good "bad" sandwich. Don't forget to add their classic giadiniera and grab extra napkins!
The best place to get an authentic Italian beef sandwich! There is no comparison, for it is way better than Portillos, hands down. The sandwich is dipped into a delicious broth before it is wrapped and handed to you or you can ask for the sandwich dry and get the broth on the side for your own dipping pleasure. When you open the wrapper, you begin to drool and can smell the delicousness of the sandwich. The first bite is heavenly. You can add hot or sweet peppers (hot is the way to go) or go without. For sure we will be back, as this is another must stop when we are in the area. Highly recommend!
I checked this place out. Typical American fast food. Very nice service. I took Al's old Chicago chopped salad. Light lunch style lettuce. It was tasty. Cheap, clean, fast. Next time I will pop in to try famous Chicago’s #1 Italian Beef.
Had no idea what an Italian Beef was (from nj and in the area visiting), closest thing I’ve ever had was a French Dip sandwich but with extra toppings that reminded me of a Philly cheesesteak.. This is definitely its own thing and was freaking delicious!!!
Ordered the sandwich regular (wet) with extra gravy in the side with provolone and both sweet and hot peppers and it was so good that I thought about getting another one to bring back to my husband in jersey (maybe next time)! Also get the cheese fries, it’s a must!
Have not been to an Al's in several years. When I checked & saw there was 1 less than a mile away I HAD to skip the free dinner work setup & get as much as I could eat!
Staff were super friendly & nice!(almost forgot to get it Dipped)
Got a sausage and fries too.
Sooo good
& I killed it all!!!
The is a classic Chicago haunt for Italian Beef sandwiches. While back in the City, I decided to try Al's. The sandwich was very good and I would eat there again. But personally, I prefer Portillo's Italian Beef to Al's.
