Mama, Jen, Pam and the entire staff are sweet, welcoming and extremely skilled in hair braiding. I always walk away satisfied and the energy in the store calms me as well.
Exquisite pieces of art all over the store as well.
Jen did my hair in the photos shown in color (11 braids);Fatima in those black and white, another time I had gone recently (7 braids -- my new preference)
Expensive AND rude??! No Thanks.
Wanted to support a local, black-owned business and buy authentic, African art (specifically masks). I usually shop online, but today I chose to go in person. Big mistake by choosing Masidi.
Was there no more than 10 minutes, literally. Walked around, asked the woman in charge to see a mask hanging on the wall....She hesitated to get it, with signs everywhere saying to customers "don't touch". She pulled it off the wall and says she could sell it for no less than $400. Politely told her, I'll have to think about this.
Looked around some more. Slightly moved a clothing rack blocking masks on a shelf (not a very organized store). Suddenly, she came around the corner, tells me to please don't touch and asked me, "are you done?" As in, are you done and ready to go? Wow! After she realized I wasn't quick to pay over $400+ for a mask, her yuck personality came out. Really quickly.
Please, know that she's not the only hands in NY that braid and sell masks. Like the older posts here, I will NEVER set foot in here again. I couldn't imagine sitting in a chair with with her fingers fiddling in my hair for hours. Not with her attitude. Yuck.
The store have some lovely gifts to buy and a hair braiding shop in the back and the owner is willing to negotiate the prices on the items you are interested in . I will be going back back thier to get my hair done and buy more stuff
The young one braids extremely good and she’s soft on the head BUT their attitudes and u just know their talking about you and it’s just sad that their lives are that boring they have to be so negative. It stinks inside, long wait times, probably some young & VIBRANT WORKERS needed, a receptionist, they need some organization, cleanliness, better pricing and be open to trying more styles since they want you to bring PICTURES.
I would give this place No Stars and the Biggest Zero possible! These woman in here truly have the nastiest attitudes, their customer service is non-existent, they are definitely way too overpriced and their setting is not comfortable at all!
My first experience was uncomfortable and I just left. I tried them again ONLY to re-braid some braids in the back (I live in the neighborhood and trying to save a trip to Harlem). She gave me a ridiculous price for that. I told her what I’m used to pay for 10 re-braids in the back in Harlem and she blatantly told me to take my ass back them.
Disgusting. I don’t know how they stay in business. I’m not a rude, nasty individual. I’m very kind and actually shy and I never try to cheat others. But in here its definitely their intention to cheat you all while treating you like your no value to them.
Hand on the Bible I would NEVER return!
Great place to get your hair braided. The ladies are kind and respectful, and I've never had to wait too long. Not to mention they are super fast!!!I I haven't gotten too many styles, but it only took about 40 mins for corn rows that last a long time.
She took care of me right away and my hair was well done. You can bring your own hair extensions or use the one's she has. It's optional and bring a picture of the style you want.
Their braiding is okay (like 3 star) but they are incredibly expensive. If possible I would give them zero stars. They charged me $170 for box braids mid back (They have always been less than $120 in my cases). My sister got box braid bob up to her shoulders and they charged her $120 plus $10 for the hair (This hairstyle is usually $80-$90 including the hair). Their customer service is absolutely terrible. They are complete bullies and will stop to do all sorts of non-sense before complying with what customer wants. They also don't really listen to what the customer wants. It is absolutely ridiculous. I would definitely not recommend this store!
