If I could give them 0 Stars I would. This is by far the worst transmission shop in santa fe. Took my 2018 Ford transit connect Four a transmission Rebuild they Had it for three months And every time we went in and asked if it was done they kept coming up with excuses as to why they had not gotten to it yet. Finally after three and a half months of waiting and threatening lawsuit they finally got it done Or so we thought. After one day of driving it the transmission started making a really bad winding sound. The transmission started slipping gears again. Took ot to another shop. Don't waste your time and money on this place. They aren't worth the dirt on my shoe. Matt is totally unprofessional

We were left stranded near the I-25 on-ramp when the car simply refused to move in any gear.

Santa Fe is not our home town so we were ~really~ feeling stranded! Five-Hundred miles from home, we got the tow-truck and the driver suggested A-1 Transmissions as the place to get help.

We met Matt who immediately came across as wanting to help but also told us he was quite backed up. He said, however, that'd he'd try to get us a diagnosis as soon as possible.

To our surprise, the diagnosis was completed in only a few hours.

The part we needed (shift controller) would have to ordered, then programmed for our vehicle. We decided to rent a car and go home and wait.

Matt kept to his estimated schedule for the repair and also, to-the-penny on his estimated cost.

We drove the rental car back to Santa Fe to pick up our car, but after test driving Matt said that he was sorry but there was additional damage inside transmission that they had missed The controller was definitely bad, and the fluid inspection had indicated no internal problem ... but there was an internal mechanical failure.

To be clear, I don't fault the shop for the diagnosis. Here's why ... as a former mechanic myself I would have made the same diagnosis.

When it was discovered, the best course of action is just to replace the whole transmission. Matt put us in touch with a distributor in California and got us his very best price on a replacement transmission. Then, he let us order it directly ... no middle-man markup.

Now, we had to return home and come back once the transmission was received and installed. Another thousand miles round trip and rental car.

When the car was finished, Matt went a long way to help us out with the expense of the replacement and I felt as though he went way above and beyond in his customer service to us.

It was a huge challenge to have a major transmission failure while on a road trip but I could not have asked for a more supportive shop than A-1.

I also wanted to mention that I am very impressed by Matt's technical knowledge and obvious level of familiarity through experience.

To summarize, we had a one-star kind of night with a broken car in a strange town and Matt turned that into a five-star experience with his shop. Everything about our situation was handled professionally and with utmost courtesy. He called us when he said he would, he always came to the phone to talk to me when I called him and he remembered us by name after two weeks' time gone by.

The car came home 500 miles as our "test" drive. It worked flawlessly; actually it was better than the original transmission.

So yes, I recommend Matt and A-1 should you need transmission work. I might go so far as to say go out of your way to use that shop.

So about a year ago I go to Matt at a1 and get the transmission on my dodge 2500 rebuilt, I told him I had just put a new torque converter and I wanted to keep it because it was performance. He kept my truck for over 9 months "rebuilt it 3 times" and every time they said it was done there'd be a problem like 3 broken pumps from forcing things together also they burnt up my guage cluster... For some reason it was removed. So this weekend I go pickup a flat bed (just the bed), and my truck completely lost overdrive and was shuttle shifting and trans was overheating so I stop in el paso had a shop look at it and shop said they put the wrong oil and had replaced my t/c with the cheapest possible option. Another transmission here we come. Do not trust these scam artists theyll tell you what you want to hear that's it, Matt is the worst mechanic in santa fe

We had A-1 Transmissions do a complete rebuild on our 2015 Buick Enclave. Matt called to let us know the vehicle was done. After my wife picked it up the engine began cutting out. Of course we were very disappointed/upset. Matt made it right. He paid for a rental for the next two weeks while he had another shop fix the issue (reprogramming the computer). It now runs perfectly. Very smooth shifts etc. I highly recommend A1 Transmission!

They serviced the transmission on my early 60’s factory automatic transmission ,did a great job! His staff is professional and Matt the owner who works with them and runs the company for many , many , years is a very nice person. If my transmission ever needs repaired,A 1 is the only place I will go!

We are from out of state and our transmission left us stranded A-1 was recommended by 2 people we know. We called several places but Matt was super helpful and when making our decision on who to use Matt was the easiest choice. We hat him rebuilt our transmission and he even got it done ahead of schedule. I really can't sa y enough good things about A-1.

My son took his car here based on some reviews listed. Extremely disappointed!! My son provided a new transmission and all new parts. They took over a month to even work on the car. Admitted to mistakes and had to correct. The day he picked up the vehicle it left him stranded on the way home. It had to be towed home. He should have been refunded full cost charged but was only given a portion of money paid. He now is dealing with damaged new parts that had to be replaced and having to find another mechanic.

Poor service!!
