This station is in desperate need of rehabilitation! Perhaps a simple power wash and some elbow grease would do the station some good. It's gross! I wouldn't want to touch the ground if you paid me. Please, MTA -wash the platform.
It's wheelchair accessible and when the GWB bus terminal opens, then the station will truly be attached to the terminal. It's been closed for years. Update: 7/8/19 - This station is fully accessible and the George Washington Bridge bus terminal is also fully accessible with restrooms, elevators and escalators.
My home station. 175 st is decent, average cleanliness but it’s nice one island with decent train service.
Better station than 181st. 175 is a bigger station with more paths to enter and exit, the station also offers elevator access. Considering all the ways to exit/enter and the elevator, this is a MUCH safer station.
Very clean and the refurbishment really makes the station more attractive and the mechanical upgrades are a welcome relief! Out standing job MTA! Y'all are the best ????????
On Monday the 18 the A train stopped there, & didn't move because of flooding at 181st. The MTA employee on the train was nice, & explained to everyone why the train will not be moving. So it's either stay down there or go upstairs, & find another way home. I went, & spoke to a female employee when you first come into the station. I asked her what buses would take me back to the area of Manhattan I live in. I told her the exact area, & street I live in. An A train is two blocks away from my building. She told me take the M4. I said thanks. Got on the M4, & it took me to the exact opposite of where I live. At the last stop the bus driver was nice. Told me to stay on, & on the way back to get off at a certain stop. Then get on the M100. Long story short. The MTA train worker was very nice. The MTA bus driver was very nice. The MTA worker when you first walk into a NYC train station gave me the wrong information. If you don't know what bus to take then just say that. Got home at 6 PM which could have been around 4:30 PM. It is what it is.
I typically feel safe in this station. However, now that the weather is getting colder there are more homeless people seeking shelter inside the train station.
This station is not fancy but it has a straightforward layout that makes it easy to enter and exit. The station has free WiFi and gets cellular service.
Do not hop the turnstiles at this station!! I can't say that enough. Cops watch the turnstiles via cc tv and arrest violators before they make it down to the platform. You won't see them until they're arresting you.
